Hi All.

I'm new here and until I brought my latest bike, Yamaha FZR600 to ride in Portugal, my last bike was a Goldstar!!

Anyway. my lad has blown up the bottom end of his NSR125RK (1990) and I'm struggling to find either an engine or a bottom half. Does anyone know where I could get one or if any other engine will fit. Thanks

The title says NS125 but your post says NSR125, could you confirm which one it is as the engines are quite different.

NS has a steel frame and swingarm, NSR has chunky alloy ones.

I think from the age it will probably be an NS even though some were stickered up as NSR's.

I believe it has been shown to be otherwise (after I argued against).

I forget the exact facts.

Hi

There was definatly an NS125RK and an NSR125RK (and totally different bikes).

Engine wise, what has gone wrong with the bottom end? Might be more appropriate to sort the existing bottom end (eg, new mains and rod kit).

All the best

Keith

If only I had the time and the tools. My lad tells me it's an NS125RK and not an NSR. if anyone knows if any other engine will fit it would be appreciated.

thanks

Sorry Keith, it sounds like he's blown the big ends and possibly the mains as well. I have removed the engine and side covers and there's a lot of debri in there.

thanks[/quote]

No other engine is a direct fit (old MBX / MTX is very similar). Given the cost of another engine and the chance of finding a good one I would be tempted to take the lump you have removed into a decent bike shop for them to do the big end / mains.

However, a bit confused when you say that you have taken off the outer covers and found debris. Being a 2 stroke the clutch casing just contains gearbox oil, should be nothing engine related in there, while the ignition cover should have no fluid in there at all.

Unless the problem is it has eaten the gearbox.

All the best

Keith

Guys, the easy way to tell is that the NS125RK has a square headlight, the later NSR125 doesnt! Plus the NS125RK is not electronically restricted and as said above is a differenet frame! There is also an NS125F as i remmber, kinda half faired italian only thing!

As for parts have you tried ringing round the breakers in the back of MCN etc. also have you tried ebay? they would be my first starting point!

The NS nor most of the NSRs were electronically restricted. The NSR125F came with a square style headlight. The NS125F was a UK model (was imported for several years before being replaced with the NS125R, the NS125R coming out in Italy several years earlier).

Basically, NS125 had a steel frame with a mechanical power valve (not fitted to UK models) with a 16" front wheel. NSR125 had an alloy from, electronically operated power valve (fitted and working on UK models, restricted in the inlet and exhaust, and in the cdi on late models in some markets) and 17" front wheel. Most NSR125 models had an electric start (exception being the quite rare SP versions) while all of the NS125 models were kick start.

All the best

Sods law I binned an `89 NS125RK engine about 2 months ago cos I got sick of tripping over it and there'd never been any interest in it whenever I stuck it up fer sale... sorry fella...

Keep your eyes open on ebay, and search for both NS and NSR. The amount of idjits out there who mix the two up and list "NSR" parts on Ebay that are actually old NS parts is ridiculous. (And even entire bikes - listed as NSR125 but actually an NS125R - https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HONDA-NSR125-NSR-125-RD125-CB125_W0QQitemZ110023778354QQihZ001QQcategoryZ10460QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem )

How much are you willing to part with? Bike here for spares or repair that "starts and drives well" currently at 50 notes... could be worth it to salvage what you need off it then slowly deposit the rest in yer wheelybin over a month or two Very Happy - https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/honda-ns125r-spares-or-repair_W0QQitemZ290021452908QQihZ019QQcategoryZ10460QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
