anyone done this that could give me a hand?
i'm confused over what order i should do everything.
as far as i can work out i need to fill all the forms to register it /get a UK number plate and then take them to DVLA with a copy of insurance certificate and MOT certificate. but how can i do this with having a UK number plate on it??
any ideas?

Cheers

You can gaurentee that its not a high speed spill as the speed limit on Jersey is 30 or 40mph Laughing

Pete,

You will need to get it MOT'd and insured 'before' you will be issued with a UK number plate.

You will need to use the Frame number to do both. Once you have them, send them off to the DVLA (with proof of age of the vehicle and the correct DVLA form) along with a fee for £30 + 1 years road tax (say about £90 in all), and you will get your V5C through a few weeks later, along with a seperate form which tells you what your new plate is. Acutally this turns up a few day earlier I think.

Thumbs Up

don't you have to pay the vat on it as well?, a friend of mine brought a gixxer from Guernsey over and they won't give him the log book till he can prove he has paid the relevant vat,

not sure but worth checking on

I imported a bike from the Isle of Man to the UK a few years back. There was no tax to pay, but I'm not sure whether the Channel Islands operate a different system. The owner in the Isle of Man had completed all the relevant export paperwork as well, which may have helped.

Regarding the bike, has it been registered in the UK before? If so, you're OK. If not then depending on the age, you will either need a type approval certificate (newer models), the number of which is entered onto your registration documents at your local DVLA office, or if the bike is older (but less than 10 years old) the bike will need to go through a SVA test. If the vehicle is over 10 years old then you're OK. Apart from the SVA test, you can take care of everything at the DVLA office.

If your bike needs a SVA, then get in touch, as this is what I had to go through.

Have a look at the DVLA website. I went through and checked everything - it's not the most user-friendly site in the world, but persevere and you'll find something!

If it's already been "officially" imported into the UK (from a DVLA documentation point of view) then you should have a form stating what the UK reg is going to be...BUT... you won't get it if you haven't got insurance. I think it costs £38 to register a vehicle in the UK.

I think you need to pop to your local office for this one and go to the enquiries desk (rather than queuing up with all those wanting their tax). Show 'em all the paperwork and they should be able to tell you your legal position on this.
