They are all pretty much as fast as each other, and you could be beaten by any 500cc+ bike in first gear, so does it really matter?

Hi

If it is a ped then it will do 30mph max. Anything more means it is not a ped. Easy to get them above that, but how much just depends on how much work you want to do.

All the best

fully de-restricted/sports exhaust fitted, an Aprilia Sonic (water cooled) that I recently re-built was easily capable of 55+mph on the flat.
I followed another recently on the way to work and was reading 60 on the car speedo..........but he MAY have a 70 kit fitted.
As said earlier, once de-restricted they are no longer Mopeds, they should be re-registered as scooters.

There built diffrently even the same models, you get some faster then other, you might get a NRG that does 50mph de-restricted, then you might get one that only does 40mph.

From experience i'd say NRG & Gilera Runner, avoid Speedfights.

Anything that is AM6 engine driven IMO. My Rx gets 57mph/90kph top speed, and i am not a small OR a light lad. And *cough*other than the obvious*cough* its fully standard. To be honest im in the process of buying a CBR250RR, and now that i look back, if i had spent all that money on a sports exhaust for it that gave me an extra ~5mph top end and got me pulled for it....im glad i never bothered. This way i can get a kickass exhaust that wont sound like it has bee's in it Twisted Evil

So we're talking:
Aprilia RX50
Aprilia RS50
Aprilia MX50
And ive came across a few other bikes such as the Rieju that share the AM6 engine, which like it or not is the most common and best 2-stroke geared engine on the market Thumbs Up Plus because of the amount of bikes that share the engine there is ALOT of spare parts and interchangeability between models and bikes (because of the 16 year old who chuck them down the road Mr. Green )

Edit: Oh shit just realised you said "un-geared". Be a man, sit your CBT on a geared bike, and buy a geared bike.

what most people are saying that the difference between speeds from different peds it not massive so therefore it doesnt really matter which one you choose. they will all be close performance wise with a max difference in speed ranging from 5-7mph difference per ped.

Matt

p.s. i hope that makes sense Confused

Yeah DNA's are a good choice. I met a guy with a race pipe on one, it was acctually able to keep up with the RX in top end, but not in acceleration, good wee bikes. But remember they are VERY small sized, so if your a big lad i would steer away from one.

But i strongly advise you to get something thats geared, having so little power to play with will really teach you clutch control. It has alot of other uses, none that i can think of right now....but it does!

I had a derestricted SR50 DITECH after passing my test and that happilly did 55 chugging along and managed 50 with no probs when riding 2up was a lovely machine

I also heard back in the day that the Italjet Dragster?? thart was a fast scoot when i was around

can't think of any others... but really for a scoot ragging nearly 60 constantly, all your really doing is raping a tiny engine, i reccon 60 is ur best and thats that.

as said above most 500-600's can beat a scoot's top end in first gear Laughing Rolling Eyes

You could try strapping a hairdryer on each side to triple the 'hp' (hairdryer power) but I'd have to agree with most of the comments on here - 50cc bikes are meant for commuting, not racing, and for the purpose they are intended they are very good.

I've seen some young chavvy nuttas round here ride them inappropriately fast (when even 30mph is too much) but when traffic thins out you'll look a bit of a tit with your head on the bars trying to coax 35mph out of it (passed someone like that on an A road today, but then I was driving a white astra van and they can go by anything Razz ).

Look at the bright side - whilst you're riding very slowly you're probably doing 120mpg or something daft like that Smile
In a couple of years time you'll wonder why you ever thought a 50cc bike might be considered even in the remotest sense as 'fast'.

Nice enough starter bike, but I'm guessing you're 16/almost 16? I'm almost 17 and at the age of around 15 I was looking forward to getting a moped. But after turning 16 I just didn't see the point in blowing over £1000 (for a ped, license, lessons, insurance, petrol etc) when I can wait a year and get a car anyway.

Recently I've started wanting a bike but I think I'll decide against it as a car is (usually) safer, and much better than going and killing myself at 17 on a restricted 600 (which I probably would do Laughing)!!

I see the attraction of being able to get around, but I have some friends that have spent hundreds of pounds (no joke) on sports exhausts for their beloved 50cc's so they can squeeze an extra 5MPH out of them, and it seems a bit pointless. If you really want a moped, then certainly get one becuase I've had a go and they're a bit of fun really, but don't bother or worry about being 5MPH slower than your mates. Plus, speedo's lie after a certain speed, so they may only be doing say 55 when they say they're doing 60. It's just not worth the hassle.
