Well as some of you know, I brought Rick’s (Black Knights) old FZR600 off him a few months back. Cosmetically it wasn’t the best but I thought it would make a nice project or if all else failed I could split it up on ebay. Rick just didn’t have the time to do it himself and for £150 I could hardly say no.

To cut a long story short I gave up; the more I took it apart the more work seemed to be needed to make it gleam like new.

Whilst browsing ebay I came across another FZR advertised as a non-runner. Gearbox failure apparently. It looked in overall better condition and I couldn’t help but feel that the working engine in Rick's old FZR could be transplanted across and bob’s your uncle… a nice working FZR.

Anyway I won it for £360 and got it home with a van. The guy described it as total gearbox failure and to cap it off it was firing on two cylinders only. Actually filling the tank with fuel easily cured the latter – it was bone dry Wink

It would still change gear so I didn’t think it was the gearbox, but the fact remained that whatever gear it was in the rear wheel still moved freely. So I sat on the floor with a mug of tea looking at it (as you do). It made a clicking noise when you moved it forwards so I looked at the chain as a first inspection. Low and behold it was going into the front sprocket housing at a weird angle. A quick session with some Allen keys and I’d found the problem - The front sprocket had popped off the shaft.

£3.16 and two days later a new locking washer and nut were fixed into place and all was well. It even came with brand new tyres, scorpion can, tax, MOT and ALL the past certificates. So a £363.16 result all ready for the top box and use as my hack bike. Hope it makes you sick Laughing

Booked it onto the Dyno tommorrow. Needs a bit of a tune as it's running a bit rich. Whilst the nice back-fires and blue flames shooting out of the back may look good, I think it might be best in the long run to sort it out - if only for my hearings sake Wink

Other than that it goes great!

I noticed this on mine Laughing

Everytime I back off the throttle with revs in the mid range the pops and farts Shocked Sounds funny at the moment, but may not be good in the long run Rolling Eyes

I found that you have to really twist the throttle to make it go, but when it does, it pulls quite nicely and smoothly.

Theres a couple of dyno places not too far from me, will have to take it just to see how powerfull it actually is.
