And Met McGee, I tried to get some pictures of him but he ran away as he said he was camera shy.
He came over from Banbury in the rain to come and sample some of the Suffolk roads on the "FUT" machine (RF600) and bought a friend along on a ZX6R, Which made it all the way from Banbury and didnt have a problem at all, Kawasakis obviously reliable then.
After getting lost in Milton Keynes for a while the eventually found their way to my neck of the woods.
We met at my local Sainsbury's carpark as they needed petrol and while it was 92.9 a litre they decided to fill up.
After a quick chat about Lee's time in America and the events of the previous nights derestriction of the Ninja, we set off to Finchinfield.
When we got ther after a twisty road (Twistier than anything near McGee anyway) we made it, Lee at the back, a bit strange I thought.
While we were sat down getting dry, we talked about the RF and why it was so dog slow, one of the reasons was that it doesnt really corner very well. The other being the sheer weight of the thing.
McGee let me have a go on the RF and I have to say it has the wierdest shape for your body, a mix between sports bike pegs and high tourer style bars, a really cramped machine, so i went off and had a go on it, 1st gear only went to 15mph and then any revs after that it just reved and no speed came from it. Apparently the bike isn't restricted either.
I went back and we sat and watched the other bikes go through Finchinfield, the nicest bikes there were a GSXR 600 K6, CBR 600 FW, Ducati 999 (which sounded like a tractor, and had a rider who knew nothing about clutch control), some kind of KTM which sounded better than the Duke and finally a VTR Firestorm with a full race system on, my god was it a sound, V-Twins truely do sound nice with race cans.
Took a couple of photo's and left for Saffron Walden.

The road to Saffron Walden was a lot better as it was dry, but it was a nice ride with some nice long bends, all of which featured McGee at the back on the lardy "I dont want to corner" RF, we got to the Tesco's petrol station as it was time for me to fill up.
McGee bought me a drink (My turn to buy next time) and we had a chat about the Gixer, which may be making its way homeward if it doesn't sell. If it does he said he will buy a Gixer 750 K6.We talked abput the upcoming BMF show and he and James decided that they were going to camp there so they could spend both days at the show.
Took another photo and then left off to go home.

We went as far as the start of the A11 then said bye and went our seperate ways.
Gotta say guys and gals, for someone that lived in America he is actually a decent bloke, nothing to be scared/afraid of. He said to say Hi to everyone as he hasn't got an internet connection yet.
Hope you enjoyed the read.

I'll tell McGoo to check out his clutch plates, it sounds like a nice bit of slip to me.
I could have met the famous Yank too, were it not for silly Yamaha exhaust valves. |

think long and hard, do you remember a grey Free Lander drive past you slowly in the sainsburys carpark, with some bloke staring at your bikes....you were all parked in the far corner nearest the main road
That would have been me admiring the bikes whilst I dropped the missus off at sainsburys
small world.... ____________________ https://domharnessphotography.webs.com |
