mpg of kawasaki kle500?

looking at buying a 2005/2006 one for touring/ normal commuting etc. What is the average mpg for one?

Cant answer for sure, but I reckon your looking at 140+ miles from a tank.

Nah, it's a tiny wee tank. 100 miles range.

I reckon I get about 40mpg out of mine. That's thrashing it hard with luggage on. Aerodynamics let them down because my GPZ which has the same engine does well into the 50s.

This is a serious question now, but how the f**k can I get 130-140 miles from a tank on a ZXR400? It's not running lean at all, plugs are spot on.

I thought these sort of bikes were built for mileage?

I don't think GPZ's are as good on fuel as they're made out to be. On a recent tour of Spain my mates GPZ500 was at times using more fuel than my VFR400 was.

Because the tank holds roughly a gallon more petrol. Wink

I got a lot of miles out of my GPZ to. Reserve would need to be switched over at around 160, then another 20 miles until i had to fill up. It would however drop down to 140 before reserve if i rode with speed in mind.

My mates also did over 180 miles to a tank, it would do as it has a massive fuel tank. Doesn't affect the mpg.

It may have been a shed Craig, but if it's putting out similar tank range to extreme3d's and Reuben's can't have affected it's fuel consumption that much. Although it's oil consumption was much more interesting Razz

I get 130mph out of mine before I fill it up, have only gone onto reserve once, at about 140 miles. I have a fast commute into work including dual carriageways, stop-start traffic and lots of traffic-light Grand Prixs.

I always put just under 10 litres into the tank every 130 miles, so that gives me a MPG of around 48-49. I suspect that this higher figure is due to me being more of an easy going novice than Stinky, and not thrashing the bike to within an inch of its life!

From the 15l/4gal tank, even a more conservative 45mpg gives you a 180 mile tank range, as long as you ride like a cissy like I do!

My bike is stock, and an 06 model, whereas Stinkwheel's is older, with cast wheels and an aftermarket pipe/system - it could be that they also help him achieve a lower figure than me.
