Car Insurance

My dad already has a car with loads of NCB. He doesn't want to sell that car but I can't get insured on it (3l merc diesel estate). If he buys a 1.2l punto and adds me and my gf as named drivers, can he use his NCB on the punto as well as his own car? Or would he have to transfer it over and have no NCB on his merc?

I hate insurance. Already found that I'm a year older and have had my license a year longer than the gf, but it's cheaper to insure her and add me, than it is to insure me alone.

So we've got me, my gf and my dad. He's got max NCB on another car. We're buying a 1.2l punto. What would be the best way of sorting insurance? I'm planning on using direct line so I can build up my NCB.

With direct line he can insure 2 cars, not full no claims on the second one thoug, and with that YOU also start to gather no claims.

You can't split NCB. Some people let you use your bike NCB's on a car policy.

Direct line let you use your bikes no claims, and you cant use NCB on two cars, however me and my dad got a quote last night for me and it only went up 200 quid without his NCB.

Best way of doing it is at renewal time. You'll get sent a quote from your current company, including the NCB, a couple of weeks before it runs out.

Ring the company and tell them you're changing your car to a Punto. Use them to insure it, with the full NCB that they know you have.

Get another company to insure the Merc. They will ask if you have any NCB (which you do). When they send the documents, they will want proof of your NCB - send them the copy of the initial renewal letter.

No rules broken.
