Right so this morning the bike didnt seem right starting up , then later on was on my way to the petrol station and it just cut out as I was going down the road. Took the carb off and cleaned it all out, now the bike has no air filter and never has when my cousin bought the bike only we didn't know until I took the airbox off today. after alot of tinkering and getting the fuel through to the carb (it was blocked somewhere further up the line near one of the valves) the bike started up(5 hours later) but anything past 3krpm its dieing (sounds like its being starved of fuel) its fine starting up now. It will rev past 3k on its stand, just when he actually tries to pull off it will die once it hits 3k.

Not really got a clue what it is, anyone got any ideas? atm theres no airbox / filter on it, and before when it was working there was jsut the box (the box has a huge hole in it anyway, whioch the previous guy taped up with ducktape and masking tape after he dropped it.

if theres no airbox then it sounds like the carbs getting too much air and not enough petrol meaning its running lean. that would cause the symptoms you'v described. i would put an airbox back on it a.s.a.p as runing lean means higher engine temptures (not to mention poor runing), which could cause a heat seize!! there has to be an equal amount of air and petrol mix for the engine to run at its best, sounds like too much air not enough petrol as the airbox restricts the amount of air entering the carb runing with no airbox means theres no restriction on the amount of air causing it to run lean. if your gonna put a cone filter like malossi then u'l need to up-jet the carb by 10% (main jet) -- stick with the std airbox as tuning reduces reliability. james

yep never run the bike with out the box and the filter in the box unless you put some other type of filter on.(pod)
if you put on a pod you'll need to rejet the carbs as they are better flowing than the standard filter. as befdelta says it'll be running lean, and thats far worse than running rich.
so get that airbox back on and get a filter for the airbox, when you do that the bike will run like a dream
