If there is only so many words in the english language then there is only so many combinations of words in the language to structure sentences with. So at what point in your life have you said everything there possibly is to say?

Different websites offer various inconclusive answers to the actual amount of words in the english language. But surely at some point your going to run out of new things to say?

There are countless trillions of possible combinations that create sentences that make sense.

If they were countless, you wouldn't know there were trillions of them.

I think the answer to Dodsi's question

is ... Not if you get your breathing right. Use your oxygen efficiently, etc., and flex that diaphragm, exercise those bronchial aerioles.

If you manage to suss that, you should be able to be saying original things till your dying breath.

The advantage being, that if you talk constantly TILL your death, its likely to be an early (and quite possibly very brutally painful) death, so you wouldn't be likely to run out of air. Innit.

Hmmmmmmmmm. Its late. I'm waffling.

Based on my knowledge of David Crystal research, I'd say the average university graduate (American college graduate) has around 30,000,000 grammatical phrases in their active and passive vocabulary. It's a very rough estimate, but it will be more than 10,000,000 and less than 100,000,000. Crystal says that the average graduate has around 30,000 words in their active vocabulary, and 75,000 in their passive vocabulary. Taking into account grammatical sensibility, I reckon 30,000,000 is a half-decent guesstimate.

Does that count talking, as well as things one might post online or, indeed, write in emails?
