there called pit bikes, you can pick them up for around £300 for a cheapy 1 and just work off that. even the top quality parts for them come in at sensible prices.
the 1 i have started out as a basic rampage 125cc pit bike but ive since changed alot. tyres, sprockets, brake pads, forks, clutch plates and springs, carb and air filter, swingarm, head bearings, plastics , gear lever and a few other bits and bobs. just need a new shock, bars, zorst and pegs and mounts to finish it off.
its also a much better option than taking the road bikes out when its a rainy sunday |

performance is never goping to be spectacular with something thats based on the C90 engine. in stock form i believe they make between 5-6bhp(125cc) but ive seen dyno charts of over 16bhp with mucho money spent on them.
because there so small and light though(45-50kg) they pretty much wheelie in every gear, first and 2nd quite violenty and as graham said like to chuck you off when your giving it some round corners offroad. with the gearing mines running itll pull about 40mph on a flat and about 50 with a bit of decline which is plenty enough for toying about on.
heres a little remix of a few vids i made before i added most of the bits to it:
