Hey,

I bought a box of weights a few years ago & havn't really used them, but i want to start doing them everyday but aint gotta clue how to do them properly. Just needs some tips on how much weight (2x dumbbells) should i lift, does it have to be so that i can barley lift them & is there a specific number of reps you should do, i.e 50 everyday.

Cheers.

It depends what sort of training you want to do.

If you want to burn up fat and just tone up. Then you need the weights to be a decent weight. about 10lbs per arm. And do quick, Continuous reps until you feel the burn.
Working through the burn is when your muscles grow.

For proper body building, your better off speaking to a PTI at a gym, Or somebody who does gym work.

Put them away and get down a gym.

If you haven't really weight trained before start light and get the correct form. 50 Is a lot of reps. Concentrate on 10 reps and 3 sets. Generally you should struggle with the weight on the last few.

Get a good routine. As an example...

Monday - Legs
Leg extensions
Front squats
Ham curls

Wednesday - Chest and Triceps
Bench Press (barbell or dumbbell) - incline, flat, decline
Fly's
Tricep Push Downs
Close Grip Bench

Friday - Back and Biceps
Bent Over Rows
Pull Ups (wide grip and close grip)
Single Arm Pull Downs
Hammer Curls
Concentration Curls

Aim to train for an hour and rest a few mins between sets. If you have no idea of the above exercises train with someone who does.

Don't want to become that big, just wouldn't mind getting some extra muscle around my arms & waist, my arms start to get very very tired at about 50 so i'm guessing there too light.

I will try that workout plan, cheers. Smile Karma

Yep you need some heavier weights. It starts that way but you'll never be happy with the mass you build. Thumbs Up

For muscle building, I believe the idea is to do around 3x10 reps of weights that are 80% of the maximum you can lift. If the last couple of repetitions in each set are tough, you're probably doing it right!
