Anybody done this beforeor looking to do it this year?

I did it in 2004 and got an official time of 1hr52, but that was of course after 10mins of getting past the start line after the official timer was started. I am doing it again this year under my grandfathers name, so may even break the over60's record! Razz

I have dont the same this time as I did last, no specific training at all, nothing close really. Weight training, a lot of football, where I can go on forever, but no proper running.

On Friday I tried running in Holmes place in london, on both the treadmill and the track which runs through the gym. On the treadmill, little over 2 miles I started gatting a huge pump in my Gastrocnemius (Calf), and my Tibialis Anterior (Runs up the outside of your shin, and helps to raise your toes.). This is quite a worry for me, as it is in less then a month.

I was wondering has anyone else felt this problem on the treadmill? As the running afterwards on flat land felt good! So im wondering if this is where the treadmill was holding back the pace my legs wanted to run at.

Also wondering whether anyone else is doing the Great North this year. As said, with little training I seem to get up to the 6minute(ish) mile pace for a 6miler, so I am hoping to get some miles under my belt soonest. Any training help will be appreciated (Thats you im talking to mainly Noggin!! Thumbs Up ).

Cheers

I'm not sports therapist but a lot of runners avoid treadmills at part of their core training as they do not provide the same resistance as running on the track/road.

I'm no runner and as I use one I'm crap at running on road but like you I find it can be restrictive. Holmes Place should have some pretty clued up staff there, go quiz some of them, if not, if they have personal trainers try and collar one of them for a quick question, they are quite helpful in my gym. (Fitness Exchange).

I was there on my dads card, I live 100miles away, and aint rich enough to be a member of a £70 p.month fitness club.

Good idea mind, however a lot of the staff at these places are a lot less help than the internets browsers and experts.

Another quick wondering, is it possible to obtain items to set you a pace to run at? So I could see the speed im running at and whether or not I need to stride faster, or sit off to pace myself?

A device like that would be handy if it also told how many miles I had ran!

You know you can turn the speed of the treadmill up AND it tells you the speed its going at on most modern ones

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
