to be fair he made a lot of money by playing chicken

we tell kids not to play chicken, but somehow he was wise and clever cos he was an 'expert'

but he was still playing chicken

he would deliberately agitate animals to the point where they would get aggressive

he was asking for it really

shame his luck run out, and i was sort of surprised but not sure why when i thought about it. especially as he was trying to do it with more animals he didnt know much about.

glad it was him and not one of his kids that got it

his stunt with his kid reminded me of wacko jacko

I think a lot of people miss the point.
He wasn't really playing chicken, and nither was he jsut anoying the animals for the thrills of it.
He had a deep affection for reptiles and he was trying to teach people that they are no tthe mindless killers that they are dipicted in movies/press.

and as for the comment by bazza, he may have done things for effect to get people attention. But he is also credited with doing more for wildlife conservation in austraila, than any other person.
So yes he may have made a lot of money with his stunts, but it has all been fed back in to projects.

I can't believe he's dead!

I'm genuinely upset, but for lots of reasons. He was still young, his poor wife and kids have lost him, he did so much work for conservation and made Australia Zoo what it is today, and he made wildlife shows fun and interesting to watch. I always looked forward to his programmes.

I thought he was invincible Crying or Very sad

RIP

Just to leave my Condolences, he was a pure Legend!

Loved his shows and even saw one last night about training group of people to cope with Crocs ...

It was because he decided to shoot some film, for a program his Daughter Bindi (Age 8) was going to host ...

20cm Bolt through the heart, anywhere else he would of lived, but wrong place, wrong time ...

Thumbs Up

RIP

Well, maybe not the head, but thats another dsicussion.

It's shocking, but not exactly surprising. It's a terrible shame for his wife and kids more than anything.

Complete nutter

He will be missed, he gave so much enthusiasm in his work. He made a lot of people happy in his work, he took away alot of the stigma and fear for some animals so that people would stop hunting them.

condolences to his family, friends

Steve Irwin did indeed say to his crew before any stunt to carry on filming even during his death. Yes his death is on camera. Smile

Found this on another site.

Crocodile Hunter death to be broadcast?

The footage of late Australian naturalist Steve Irwin being killed by a stingray could be shown on TV.

Charismatic Irwin, dubbed the Crocodile Hunter after his internationally acclaimed TV show, died yesterday while diving on Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

Irwin was filming for a new documentary when he lost his life, and his cameraman shot the moment when the stingray's barbed tail stabbed the legendary conservationist through the heart.

The tapes are currently being held by Queensland police - but Irwin's family are determined to respect his last wishes and allow the harrowing footage to be broadcast.

Irwin once insisted, "My number one rule is to keep that camera rolling. Even if it's shaky or slightly out of focus, I don't give a rip.

"Even if a big old alligator is chewing me up I want to go down and go, 'Crikey!' just before I die. That would be the ultimate for me."

An insider tells the Daily Star, "This is exactly what Steve would have wanted. He knew the dangers and was totally up for the cameras to get everything."

And a tribute movie.

apparently it doesnt really show much anyway. I saw some guy on the news who was there at the time and he said it was very quick. The tail flicked round and that was it.
