Good morning,

Was looking at my speedometer last night and since 2 weeks this thursday I have done 1200KM on my 2003 nsr. Was gettin worried as this seems alot for such a short period. Was put in for its first service at 961KM and was ok.Was desperate to run it in so thats how av done so much.

Will high mileage affect resell value, hope to sell it in about 1 year and a half?

Wot is the average mileage for a year and a half old bike to have done?

How long does a motorbike engine normally last?

How many miles/KM has your bikes done and how old is it?

just to get a ruff idea as there seems to be lots of nsr's for sale with only 1000 - 2000 miles on it and this seems very very little!!

Cheers
Terry

When I bought my 2001 NSR last september, it was my first bike and it had 12000 miles on it. I paid well over the odds for it but you live and learn.

It now has 13K miles and I was offered 1500 quid part exchange on it the other day. Lost loads of money, but I have learned my lesson.

When I got my bike at the end of February it was nearly 3 years old, and had 1400 miles on it. Now it has over 5500

High mileage does affect resale value, but its not major unless you have loads and loads of miles on it, like 40k

Your engine should last about 20000 miles if you look after it. Best to change the rings in that time though

Well my bike has got about 10700miles on it. I bought it at the beginning of this year with 6900miles. Very Happy
But I have some spare clocks for it which have 8900 on them, which I will fit when I come to sell the bike, it's all legal afaik because my clocks sustained damage in a recent crash Very Happy

Just watch out you dont have any paperwork with a milage higher than 8900 on it

And you actually need there to be some milage since that service you had earlier this year to when you sell it Smile

Look at all these oldies crashing all over the place and giving us Blade riders a bad name Rolling Eyes Laughing

Back on topic though - I think that 2-strokes do tend to be more fragile anyway, which means that a high mileage bike could be asking for trouble (unless it was owned by Keith, or you are Keith Razz). One guy on the 400GB forum saw the odometer on his NC30 go round to "00000" back in January, which shows one extreme of potential engine (and chassis) life.

Whats the point? I'm going to change the clocks over anyway because they really are damaged, and i don't want to explain to buyers why there is a dent in the clocks Very Happy

...Although i think i have to be a little more 'selective' on my bike use now! Rolling Eyes Ducatis may not be so forgiving! Razz
