...as standard?

A challenge - Cos I can't find one.

Needs to be a good brand, have XP Pro out of the box, wireless, and needs to be silent. All other specs are secondary.

Not for me, so must be an off-the-shelf item so self build is out - adding XP Pro is not an option either - has to come pre-installed.

Very Happy

Dunno about silent, but try:

Think with most Dells you at least get the option of XP pro.

Or the IDell Inspiron 9400 range. I have an Inspiron 9300, 17" Widescreen and its great. Had it a for a year or so and don't notice any noise. Fans seem pretty quiet.

Or this Toshiba Satellite Pro P100.

Or DELL again, XPS M170 (scroll down the page).

Dads got one of these: HP Pavilion DV8200. Its the kind of notebook that puts most desktops to shame.

IIRC his has got XP Home on it, BUT Im sure that you could get it with Pro.

BUT, why does the person that want XP Pro, especially as its got a such a high price premium on it for what you get extra (which, IIRC is simply better networking options. But, if there is a XP Pro/Win2k/Win2k3 machine already on the network you dont need another one-the Pro/2k/2k3 one will act as a server for XP Home and enable more than 5 computers to interact on a network.)

Which then is in contravention of the XP Home licence.

The ONLY reason XP Home has networking capabilities is so that it can connect to Internet.
