they count spoiled votes but tend to assume that the person was too stupid to be able to fill it in properly.

they certainly dont think 'wow we got a lot of spoiled votes so we must be doing something wrong as people dont like us, maybe we should change our policies'

if you are gonna waste your vote you might as well not vote at all

taking part for the sake of it is a bit silly but if you enjoy it why not i guess

No, they definitely take this into account and it's a consideration that most are 'protest' votes.

No.

It is registering your dislike of all the candidtates.

Not voting is registering your apathy - that you don't care who is there, are happy with who ever is elected.

A big difference.

A, No they dont.
B, A spoiled ballot does NOT mean "None of the Above", it actually means "ANY of the above are fine by me", because you have placed a vote (and offered your support) but without specifying who this support was for.
C, Your spoiled ballot (out of political protest) is in NO WAY any different to the spoiled ballot of someone who was too thick to fill it in correctly.
D, I'm pretty sure they stopped even publishing the amount of spoiled ballots?

why vote if there is no one who represents your views ?

i wouldnt vote because only one party ever wins in my area and they have a strong majority and as it happens Id prefer to have that one than the others but I'm not too keen on them either.

I am not an Idiot.

It is my right to live in a doemocracy to not cast a vote, why vote alternativley and have YOUR country run by an even worse bunch of amateurs.
In fact this this democracy that we live in, Blair and his cronies rode total roughshot over the majorities concensus that we should NOT have gone into Iraq based on the fraudulent argument put forward by his spin government.

I voiced my opinion, don't knock it, you are perfectly entitled to yours and I respect that.

Well you do a good impression of one.

Indeed it is. And with the choice you make, you discard your right to have anyone who voted to listen your opinion, however valid you might think it is, about government policies.

I don't have a problem with anyone not voting. I do have a problem with anyone not voting and expecting their opinion on any political issue to be considered seriously.

See that tired old hackneyed Internet quote:

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)

That's you, that is.

B) The commonly accepted view is mine, not yours Smile.
C) Nope, but it's accepted that people spoil their ballots intentionally to register their dislike of all candidates.
D) Last election style thing I saw I'm pretty sure they did mention spoilt ballots and comment on that re protest, etc.

The commonly accepted view is wrong and still achieves nothing. Smile
