Yesterday I was attending 'Planet Love', an outdoor dance music festival in Northern Ireland, featuring tents with different genres etc.

A few of us were standing outside a tent when an ambulence came up to the gate beside it, where they proceded to wheel up a body on a stretcher. He was lying face down on it with a tinfoil bag covering him down to the shins, and then you saw his feet pointing downwards towards the stretcher. He was loaded into the ambulence and no real effort was made to rush to get away, they loaded it up slowly and drove away without sirens or anything.

We were rather alarmed at this, and asked one of the paramedics "Is he alright mate?" to which the guy sort of looked blankly and said "He just got waay too fucked, he'll be alright".

I've never seen someone face down on a stretcher and certainly not with tinfoil bag over thier body. Would this be the general procedure for the deceased?

Yeah if they are dead aren't they carried on their back with a black bag on them?

Or is that just on TV?

The reason they don't exert much effort loading an OD'd chav into the ambulance is because for every one of these worthless scumbags clogging up the system, you can bet a more deserving casualty dies because they couldn't get there fast enough.

I would leave them all to die, but nobody asked my opinion. Thumbs Up

No!

Ambulances don't pick up the deceased. They are left for the Coroners van.

The ones that were standing there were beggining to freak out a bit, and of course then someone came up and said "someone stabbed him in the neck with a knife" and so on. Laughing

Depends.
On my experiance, Black body bag if dead. Tinfoil if cold/unconcious.
But, face/legs down... Means pretty bad stuff as you need to be face up for a neck brace!

From my own experience working on a first aid post at V festival in Essex, you're lucky if people who've OD'd are alert enough to respond to you. So you sometimes have to get them on a stretcher any way you can. If they're breathing and the airway is not obstructed, the sometimes on their front is the best place for them.

In the 'recovery' position you are almost lying on your front anyway, but a stretcher isn't wide enough for that.

That's what I initially thought. It still seems somewhat odd - maybe they rolled him back into the Recovery position (difficult to do from face down) when he was loaded into the ambulance and that's one of the reasons they didn't speed away.

You would have thought he was dead if they covered him, maybe was buzzing and freaking out and had to cover him.

That will be the reason. If he was conscious they would have laid him on his back and strapped him in. If he was going to be sick he could tell them and they can quickly tip him onto his side to allow him to be. However if he's not conscious they take him on his front. Also provents his tongue rolling back.

They have to carry him either on his front or back, not sides. On the side, although ideal (recovery position) is just too unstable in the ambulance.
