I almost always get good deals , but I surprised myself this time.

I just got a fantastic deal for Thursday, pair of BT45s fitted ride in ride out balanced , valves £125, which is probably what sickpup gets them for,

thing is...

I'm dead paranoid about it now, any idea why it could be so cheap considering the opposition (Sharples want £192 , TST want £185 , Regent want £172 ,)

I've always thought it a deal seems too good to be true....

that said the bloke is not VAT registered and seems to be quite well known, I had a look at those tyres they looked exactly like the ones in Sharples and still had the release agent all over them and hence unused.

Any suggestions?

Should I take up his offer of Avon radials for £135? ,

Think they cost me £105 fitted and balanced. £135 is about the right price in London. Punters get 28% discount.

The prices people quote for tyres on here scares me.

Not bad at all, considering a pair of Pilot Power's cost me £206 fitted ride in/ride out.

I'm definitely getting my money's worth out of them though.

Sounds like the other ones are charging way over the odds.

Many years ago I paid £150 for BT45s fully fitted, ride in ride out - and thought it was a bit expensive at the time.

There are really only two things that will be evident in a dodgy tyre deal. (besides a lack of care in fitting). The first is not using a new valve, it's only a few £'s but it really should be replaced. Sounds like yours was though.

So the next point is the age of the tyre. At some point the tyre will have been stored in a warehouse. All tyres have a shelf life of around 5 years. The rubber eventually shrinks and then cracks caused by damage to the rubber from Ozone attack. Once it's nearing the end of that shelf life the owner of the stock will naturally want to shift it all on and he does this by lowering the price.

Check the tyre wall, you are looking for 4 numbers with the last two being 0X such as 04 - 2004. The first two will be anything from 1 to 52 - the week in the year. So for example if the marking is 1204 the tyre was made on the 12th week of the year 2004.

Don't worry if it is nearing 5 years as most warehouses keep the tyres in a fairly controlled environment and like any sale by date it's given a certain amount of leeway - just might help explain the reduced price.

They were usual 120 front 180 rear (CBR600FX). Not RR, stock compounds.

My best deal so far has been on michelin tyres. Got a set of pilot sport HPX's front and rear 120/70 200/50 for £140 all in.

Bonza!

(Now you try getting that deal on a zx12!)

Thumbs Up
