AMD Turion ML-32 1.8ghz seems to be slower than a AMD Sempron 64 3200+ 1.6ghz... and costs more. Why?

How'd you work that one out?

64 bit is the most overrated thing in the world, AMD have only released 64 bit processors so that they can say "ooh look we have 64 bit and intel don't, nur nur nur".

As the semperon are budget chips and the turion are the laptop specific chips i'd stick with the turion...

That site says pretty much what I've just said:

Quote:
Contrary to what everyone else said, I did some research on this and the Pentium 4 is better. It has a a faster operating speed and although it is 32 bit and the sempron is 64 bit, 64 bit really isn't needed because not many programs use it. In fact very few do.

I'd reccomend you get https://uk.insight.com/apps/productpresentation/index.php?product_id=HPYA04XRL&nbs_search=C%3D102%26S%3D1015%26lang%3Den-gb%26K%3D%26SB%3Dplh%264203v%3D512%2BMB%26M%3DHP and an extra 512 of memory personally, should leave you with about 50 quid left over hopefully although that depends what the current memory configuration is when you buy the laptop.
