So i have a phobia of bee's and wasp's, i think this came from the fact my sisters used to scare the shit out of me by making buzzing noises in my ears when i played outside as a child. Sad

It isnt so bad nowadays but i still dance, bob and weave like Neo from the Matirx when i see them.

My lock up is next to a wall, the door opens less and less now as this plant/tree thing has been growing in the gap between.
I noticed some wasps hanging around it, they didnt bother me, but they have been increasing in numbers even though the summer is ending.

I've now seen why, it's a bloody nest!

Where the door opens there is a nest behind it, now every morning i open it, they get a little pissed off and buzz all over the place.

What can i do, i know that if one dies it infuriates all the others.
i thought of nuking it with flammable liquid but what if i dont get all of them, also it is right next to someones house.

Thanks Neutral Thumbs Up

Get down your local garden shop and get a spray can of wasp nest killer. You can spray it from a fair distance away, it expands like foam, so just spay it over the entrance and it kills all the little buggers!

Thumbs Up

Get some insecticide powder and douse the entrance of the nest liberally. Then leave it and the nest will die as the wasps entering and leaving get covered in powder.

Laughing don't do that!!!

I found this...

Quote:
It’s a funny old world
Reuters reports that a Zurich man sprayed a can of insect killer on a wasps’ nest then tried to use a cigarette lighter to fend off the angry swarm. The resultant fire caused his flat, and those of two neighbours, to burn down, causing SFR500,000 of damage. At least the fire was accidental. Mr Sandhu of Milton Street, Walsall tried to destroy a football-sized wasps’ nest in his attic by deliberately using an aerosol as a flamethrower - he too set his house alight.

have you spoken to your employer/manager? This is potentially a health and safety issue and surely it would be his/her responsibility to have it safely removed or exterminated?
Chances are they'll have to call in the professionals to get rid of it, I know when the electricians in work come across one we have to liaise with the environmental services to get it removed before works can be completed (happy happy joy)
Alternatively, on ebay at the mo...

They'll come back, find they can't get in, fly off and just die of exhaustion. Don't worry about it.

Or you could ring Environmental Health and let them sort it.

Were you serious when you said you're scared of wasps cos your sisters made buzzing noises when you were little? Laughing

Yeah, they used to get behind me and sneek up, then just do buzzing noises and probably touch my head as well.
Sometimes i'd run so fast i'd hit my shins on the patio door as i tried getting away.
Sad

Is the enviromental agency thing free?

Yep. They wont necessarily do it straight away, but they'll come remove the nest at some point, and you wont be charged.

They're usually fairly quick coming to remove nests, especially if you can point them directly at the nest. Thumbs Up

I wouldn't go spraying those wasp nest killer sprays unless you can do it from behind a door or window that you can close when the contents of the nest get pissed off. Spray grease is a very effective fly spray though.

You want some hornets to play with, wasps are only little. Razz

Yea, Environmental Health team will sort it out for you Thumbs Up

They remove nests from people's houses and private property as well as council owned property.
They should sort it out Thumbs Up

Word of advice, don't be near the nest when they smoke it out, as all the lovely buzzers start to die they go on a stinging frenzy. Neutral

I had a hornets nest in a tree in the garden. I emptied 2 tins of wasp and fly killer into it and they never came back.

I had a wasp nest in the eves of my house and phoned the council. They sent out a bloke a few days later and it took him about 1 minute to spray the nest and charged about £40. Worked though. I just had to make sure I filled the hole so they did not use it again.

I have had a wasps nest on my garage door all summer.

It's still there now, but to be honest I think all the wasps have gone.

Consider this, it has been there all summer, while its been red hot and chilly, and I haven't been stung once, i have ignored them (apart from watching with interest on how big the nest is getting) and they have pretty much ignored me.

They are not out to harm (unlike spiders, which of course are evil Wink ), just don't go poking your finger in the nest
