Hi,

As some of you may know, I have been in Amsterdam for the last week, at a broadcasting conference and exhibition called IBC.

Our company was running a stand in order to make new contacts and get some new business. It happens every year. Our company has a corporate partner which makes Clustered storage for the Broadcast Industry. This company is called Isilon.

On the Isilon stand was a CBR1000RR that we sponsored. Our logo was very small on the swinging arm.

Anyway, we organised a party for loads of our customers and partners on Saturday night on our IBC stand. During the course of this party, our technical director introduced Danny and I to "The motorbike man from Isilon".

Danny and I sat down with him and started a conversation... you know the usual "So what do you ride then blah blah..."

"Yeah I ride a CBR1000RR. Don't really ride on the road its a race bike."

"Cool. So Are Isilon sponsoring your racing?"

"Not the main race series, but they are sponsoring me in the Macau GP"

Macau GP. That rang a bell. I looked down at his name tag.

Holy shit, Danny and I are talking to Michael Rutter! Shocked I thought I recognised him, but he was at a broadcasting show wearing an Isilon shirt. I thought I had just met him before somewhere, and it turns out he was a fookin world class superbike rider!

He turned away to talk to another isilon customer (I think this other man was boring him to death as Mr Rutter was trying to shut him up and talk to Danny and I again). I looked at Danny and whispered "Thats Michael Rutter!"

Danny looked back. Blankly.

We carried on our conversation a bit more, I told him a bit about G and that he was tempted to go for the D675 series etc. The Isilon boss then came over and said to Michael that they had to leave.

Michael thanked us and apologised for having to leave. Before he left he mentioned something about getting his guys to let us in the pit garage at Brands at the end of September. Only thing is, we didn't get anything in writing. I might speak to the Isilon chaps and see what they can arrange. Maybe I can drag G along and they can converse about racing! Smile

When he had left, I explained to Danny who he was, and he was suprised... but I think he had an inkling that he was a pretty special rider for Honda to just give him a bike. I think maybe he had an idea he was famous but couldn't place him.

Best part was, he got chatting to our receptionist, and he gave her his phone number!! Laughing

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I am with someone and fame does not impress me at all. Ryan Faulkwar (however you spell it) was there also but he was asleep half the time.

Hey Mark, good to meet you and Danny out there. Good to see a face that wasn't a customer or my boss.

You guys get back OK? Shame I missed meeting a superbike rider Sad

Oh well, Amsterdam was great!
