Is it just me, or did this sort of slip under the radar? Having just seen one in the flesh down at the bike meet, it doesn't half make a visual impact. It runs Yamaha's venerable 660 fuel inected single cylinder lump and a rather interesting looking rear suspension setup.

I'm a sucker for things that are different or interesting, wouldn't mind one as a next bike...

It looks better than Suzukis GSR.

I'm sure that someone at work has one Thinking

Its a poor mans MT 01, look quite nice though. Can't imagine its fast as it looks heavy and powered by a thumper. The apeal of the MT 01 is the huge v twin.

I like the idea, but all the reviews say the execution is rather cack.

it certainly looks cool, and Bike reckon it handles very nicely, but with that 660cc single engine its only gonna make about 45bhp....
would be a nice first bike or maybe a slightly more comfy alternative to a full on supermoto.

Except I'd expect the handling to be way, way different to a supermoto.

on what basis? if you're gonna get really technical about it I'm lost, fair enough it has a low seat, but in terms of looks, up-right position, wide bars, quick handling and punchy single engine I'd think you're getting a kind of soft-tuned supermoto experience... which is what I meant to say.

Yes but V twin horses have more character.
This bike will have plenty of low down grunt and be a delight to squirt about at legal(ish) speeds.

All the reviews point to the handling being sweet, and the motor being more than adequate for the size. Plus the fact that as a 660 single, there is no doubt room for improvement. The same motor is used in Aprilias pegasa strada, so it's probably decent. Most of the pictures i find are of it on the back wheel.

a bit of advice, don't get one "as a next bike", they're poor.

this might be of interest too.

there actually very good bikes rided a few of them at work and evan better there a dodle to work on.

definetly a laugh to ride handling well blah blah blah, best bit is the engine tho seems alot punchier in the mt-03 than in the xt660 imho.

there not an awful lot of money but if i had that sort of cash i would probablybuy a faser lol.

good bikes new great bikes as a second hand bargain Smile

p.s sounds the dogs bollocks with the yamaha genuine akrapovic cans

What I want to know is why they only have 45bhp when the twin carb version of the same engine MZ use in their bikes is making closer to 60?

just a case of tuning i expect, u build the bikes for what u want them to do, MZ obviously intended the mastif to be an arse kicking supermotard etc

the mt-03 is supposed to be a learner friendly first bike thats a laugh to ride?

mastiff 50bhp
mt-03 45bhp

would u really notice? i doubt it
