Just to rub it in, our house was right on the Stamp Duty limit, so we didn't have to pay any





It is indeed a kick in the teeth, added on to the cost of solicitors, deposits etc buying a house is VERY expensive indeed.

Just thought I'd point out. The HMRC (formerly Inland Revenue) also charge your solicitor £100 for submitting the SDLT forms (Stmap Duty Land Tax). So no doubt your solicitor will passing that strainght onto you.

Consider this...
We bought our house about 9 months ago and had to pay stamp duty on it

Approximatly 6 months later the stamp duty bracket was moved and we would have fitted into the amounts where it wouldn't have applied......

Would have paid for the new sofa that we had to have on loan instead......
