Pretty much what it says on the tin, how many cubes do you need to just open the throttle and for the wheel to come up?

I've seen 600's do it, just wondering if you can go lower.

Thanks.

it's actually far more to do with gearing, torque and power delivery. My DR350 will pop a power wheely in first and in second with a bit of encouragement (lean back + tug on the bars) Being a single with off road gearing helps.

Nothing to do with size or bhp, it's more to do with chassis configuration and how the power is delivered. My H100 does power wheelies and it has an optimistic 9bhp. This is because it is small and light and delivers all the power suddenly in one go.

My gsxr400 used to but you really had to try. Not like my 600's where you could wack the throttle open and it would come up.

I've ridden a DT125 and that comes pretty dayam close to doing one in first.. was thinking more about sports bikes though. For say, could a VFR400 powerwheelie? or a CBR400 if you wanna talk inline engines.

It depends what you mean by power wheelie too.

There's the type where you just give it full throttle and as the revs rise it comes up whether you want it to or not.

Then there's the other type where you have to roll along at a certain rpm then whack the throttle closed then back open while tugging on the bars a bit.

i had a c90 field bike that, with a bit of brutal encouragement, came up and went forever.

I had a Kawasaki KH125 pre-restriction that would hoist the wheel off the throttle in 1st. Quite lively it was for an old 'un. You can make just about anything power-wheelie if you fit a big enough rear sprocket.

My turbo bike could smack me in the face in 3rd and 4th at about 140mph.

Sports bike wise, I'd say 600cc is the min (I'm talking about powerwheelies, not clutching it up)

A VFR400 won't without quite a bit of downgearing because of the long first gear and the chassis has quite a lot of weight over the front.

Yep could only launch one when going over a hump in the road (or a speed bump) on my zxr400. Both my 600's just need you to shut the throttle then crack it open and up it comes Thumbs Up

BASICALLY-->

ANY BIKE WILL POWER WHEELIE!

As a couple of people have said its all to do with the gearing (among other things). Remmber that the amount of teeth on the sprockets will determin your power delivery. It you have a dinner plate sized sprocket on a bike with stock front the chances are it will wheelie. (watch a stunt video - the reason they can get 12 oclock wheelies at under 30mph is because of the way theyre geared!)

https://www.calculatedrisk.ca/lar/pics4/P1010151%20(WinCE).JPG

Body postion, correct throttle action, suspension etc will all be contributing factors!

I think the "ooo you have to have X amount of cc's to power wheelie" is a myth among small engined riders maybe?, has anyone gone to rome and seen the kiddies owning on little mopeds Smile

I had a turbocharged Hayabusa. I built the whole system from scratch, it made 300HP at the wheel. I still have the bike but I sold the turbo system complete, and now I'm building a much more powerful setup. Should clear 450HP at the wheel I guess.

My little brothers Honda Champ 80cc semi auto would power wheely with me riding it and my brother on the back, up a very steep hill! and it would do it with lots to spare!

You can do it with any bike realy Thumbs Up

However i get the feeling that your meaning 40-50mph roll on wheelies, in which case you do need a bike with a bit more grunt than a semi auto 80cc 4 stroke Wink

tip: dont do it on VFR400's the oil pickup is at the front of the engine, you're asking for trouble if you do!

As others have said, dependant on gearing etc.

The K6 GSXR600 will not powerwheelie in first gear, owing to the fact it has such a massivly tall first gear and pulls from around 6 K revs...might have to try wheelying it at that point actually Thinking

It also depends on the sitting position like the hornet pops right up because
the handle bars are high and when you give it full throttle your weight
goes back and you pull on the bars.
Also its how far you forword you are sitting from the back wheel.

Just had to get something in. Wink

Only a 1000 cc bike will wheelie.. all the others won't work... I heard you can put helium in the front tyre to make a sub-1000cc bike wheelie but I don't know how true that is??

It's absolute tosh! Very Happy Very Happy

Something to do with helium being less dense, it requires more of it reach a required PSI and thus they weigh the same.
