Been without a bike for a week now all due to a service, where I am informed, that the caliper is missing its piston seals ie a £3 part.

They have been ordered but not arrived at my garage, anyway in frustration (bike main form of transport as wife uses car to take kids to school etc), I ordered some from Wemoto. Anyway they came put were Honda (yeah thats right) parts.

I phoned wemoto and they said they were a standard 27mm and would be okay, anyway my garage says not. I don't know if he's just bull**ing me or not.

I live in Yorkshire, but where can I source something like this, its the most simple of parts and its been a right pain without it.

To be fair i've had this problem before with bikes, ie with fork seals. Why is it I can have a new engine for a mondeo the following day, but not a 5p bit of rubber for a Kawasaki?

Can anyone can help, i'm looking for a genuine part. Thanks

Missing it's piston seal????

How on earth? Would it work without one in it? I very much doubt it.

If it's just a dust seal then yes, but not for long before it gets gummed up - certainly in winter! If it's the main seal then not at all as the rubber 'tension' caused by it's rotation as the piston moves though it, is what pushes the piston back in.

Yeahh he said piston seal, you normaly get a piston and a dust seal together, so perhaps he got his words wrong.

But the wemoto part was certainly tight on the piston as I saw that when he put it over it.

I'll try Cradley.

It just p***s me off that motorcycles can be so impractical ie a week for a part its mad. How could you just have a bike as a main form of transport? Thing is its a Kawasaki ER5, this has got to be soooooooooo standard and common.

It should be tight on the piston itself.

I think the guy's talking arse myself. If it's a proper garage, he'll have cradley kawasaki's number himself. Mad

Having a bike as your main mode of transport is relatively easy and hassle free - but only if you can look after it by yourself so you know when something is going to need replaced soon, you can plan ahead etc. Got that haynes manual? Thumbs Up

I do Greg, I've gone as far as changing pads, myself, but I didn't trust myself to do a caliper service and change the brake fluid.

It was the dust seal that was missing.

It took a week to resolve this, the guy at the garage could tell I was annoyed.

He only buys parts from the local Kawasaki dealer, who I also phoned and my garage chap wasn't lying, they were just s**t at sourcing parts.

To be fair in the end he didn't charge me much for all the work.

But no i'm annoyed about this, the wife and kids ended up having to walk to school.

Im planning to keep my current bike when I get my Z750s so this problem shouldn't happen again.

Cradley's definitley worth it mate, my dad's ordered all sorts of shite for his bike which is a very little known/rare model and the parts have always been within 10 days, overseas. In UK the longest we've waited is 2 days.

Cradley everytime. Been up loads of times for little bits and pieces for my G2 Ninja and they've always had it in stock, hence I'm glad I only live 20 minutes away.

Have you tried Kawasaki Autorama in Batley?

I suspect the seals you got would have been fine. Seals are one of those parts that can fit many different bikes, even from different manufacturers, just like exhaust gasket rings.

And you think that it's impossible to have to wait a week for a car part? Don't be daft man. ER5's are not as common as you would think, they are less common than the CBR600, for example. They have never really been big sellers.

Got to agree there. Z-Power were awesome for me. Gave me a big discount because I spent so much. No other companies were prepared to give me any money off.
