I thought those speed limits had been there for a while? The signs certainly have.

Or do you mean they're going to enforce them now? (Since everybody flys through the 30 at 70mph until they have to stop for the booths. Laughing)

Hi,

I think they were suggestions until 25th May 2006. I would guess there will be some enforcement as a lot of people seem to assume the toll is private and cammera free.

also if you have just be doing 80, 30 is really slow so I am sure there is money to be made, it making a loss on the toll.....

Regards
Charlotte

The signs have been up, but until now all they've done is occasionally alert the police who sit and wait at the end of the toll road to persue the offending vehicle. In Bob's case (who uses TAG and therefore nails (sic) it straight through the plaza area at whatever speed he was originally going - probably about 50 as he's an old moaning git) he just pulled up in the services and hid in the toilets until they got bored and buggered off.

I'm not surprised they are introducing this, they've been running at a loss since it opened.

It does not seem too bad to me, the speed limits are only for about 1km on either side of the toll booths.

Not as if you want to be barreling into them at 70+ anyway.

The M6 toll is usually really good for top speed runs, being 70 of course officer.

Surely it's to stop people going too fast into the toll area.

Saw an unmarked, newish dark blue/black Ford Mondeo saloon that looked to be well in excess of a ton chasing down someone on there last Thursday.

Try not realising they've turned a camera round to face the other side of the dual carriageway for a few days. Embarassed I was bricking it for weeks, but was lucky enough to have been riding in traffic or in the dark past it, so I wasn't speeding. (Shortly down the road I had been a little more enthusiatic on more than a few occasions.) Smile Shifty

Be careful speeding down the toll road. There are loads of Police there. The fact it's probably the safest road in Britain bares no fact in this case.
They stand on bridges with cameras and I've seen 3 marked cars futher up pulling people. This is pretty regular.

I assume the cameras are just to ruin peoples fun racing away from the toll, which is an obligatory unwritten law BTW.

For folks' information, the new race rules is now a rolling start type with the 70 sign the new start line. Wink

Speeding on the approach to tolls isn't a good idea as there are lots of blind drivers making sudden changes of lane to "queue jump", and as there are lorries etc. passing through, you can be pretty sure there will be oil and diesel drips about the place.

The 50 limit approaching the tolls on the Severn Bridge is enforced by camera vans, and I would imagine that the limits on the M6T will be enforced too.

I can understand the reason for them too - there are lots of accidents on the approach to / exit from toll booths as people tend not to look anywhere but ahead, and they then side-swipe a vehicle as 9000 lanes merge in to 3.

Oh, and try not to do what I did and break the auto-tolls Very Happy
