Last Tuesday I was shunted from behind as I was getting on to a roadabout. The car that was in the queue behind me must have put his foot down to nip out with me.
The police attended and all details were taken. I didn't feel hurt at the time, just a bit shocked as the force sent me off my bike. Later on in the day I went to A & E to get checked out, had a head injury, whiplash and have a trapped nerve making my arm go dead and loss of power etc. Bike is scaffed and will need repairs.

The bloke who hit me was a bit of a scal and didn't apologise, had a stinkin attitude and tried to talk me into letting him pay for repairs without going through insurance. Well guess what. He gave a false name and address to all concerned. The people at address he gave have no clue who he is, even though he gave the right surname for that house and the car is registered to a ouple who's name doesn't match up and at a different address. Also the car was insured the day before the bash.

What is likely to happen now as far as getting my bike and compo sorted? Am I going to get binned off by the police (got an appointment tomorrow) or will they trace him and throw the book at him?
I am fully comp so I will get some kind of cover but am really miffed at the thought of losing my potential no claims.
Am mega pissed off with not being able to get on my bike as I normally ride it every day.

Anyone got any ideas? Sorry for the long ramble.

Motor Insurance Bureau provide cover for people in crashes with uninsured or untraced motorists. Talk to the police and your insuance company or their solicitors.

If the police attended and took details, they will most likely take a dim view of him giving a false name and address. Assuming they can trace him, I would guess books may well be thrown.

How much effort they put into tracing him is another matter altogether. Could be he has 'cloned' someones numberplate in which case it could be next to impossable to track him down. It also means the police fucked up in not properly establishing the guys identity before letting him go.

Your insurance company is another possible line of attack. They don't want to pay out for an accident if they can possibly make someone else stump up. They can be remarkably resourceful when it comes to finding ways not to spend money.

Thanks for all of your replies. Stinkweel... the lack of police motivation to track this guy is what is bothering me the most. I ask why the hell he managed to pull off giving the wrong details in the first place as they did radio through about the car on the day. I said at the time that I thought he didn't have anyinsurance by the way he was acting. He kept asking over and over 'can I go now' and was really aggitated. I wasn't expecting for him to have blagged the whole ID. KNOB.
And as you say, insurers can be like a dog on a rancid old bunny when they want their cash.
