Just a quick question, whats the best way to pay your bill?

Can i go into my local branch for example and pay by debit card? Or do it over the phone or something.

Also can you choose what you pay, or is it the minimum payment or full amount.

You can pay anything you want. If you don't then you'll be charged.

Who is the card with? I pay mine online. If you have a bank account you can manage online, you should be able to get the sort code and account number of the credit card account to make a payment to.

I have a Barclaycard and also a Barclays bank account. I just ring up and go through the automated press 1, press 2 etc and just type into my phone how much I want to pay.

I could also pay online through the Barclaycard website using a debit card. I'm pretty sure you can go into your bank and pay over the counter. If you can clear the balance - if you only pay the minimum amount it will be ages before you clear the total as you'll only just be clearing the interest on the balance.

Go to the website of your card and have a look there - it should explain all.

does noone read the agreement and guidelines when taking out relatively important financial commitments these days?

Any idea what the APR is?
is there an interest free period each month?
do they charge for cash withdrawls at ATM machines?
what do they charge for using the card abroad in addition to exchange rate conversions?
what is the minimum monthly payment as a percentage and what's the lowest amount that can be paid (if the %age is below a threshold)?

these are the basic questions we should all know about our credit cards..

is it any wonder that 18-35yr olds in this country are in more debt than they ever have been in the past, if we don't read and understand the basics?

It's always irritated me that the Direct Debit method is exploited by the CC companies.

Usually they give you two options. Pay off the entire balance every month or a tiny amount which *just* covers the interest. This means if you want more than a month's credit, you get shafted unless you remember to make extra payments manually.

I found out a while back that you can pay a regular amount off automatically on your own terms. As Shaggy says above.

A direct debit pulls money from your current account, but you can set up a standing order tp push money out from your account into theirs.

You need to call the CC company, as they don't volunteer this info (wouldn't make any money otherwise, would they? Wink ). They will give you a sort code and account number for their bank account and then you use your credit card number as the 'payment reference' for the transaction. Set up a standing order with these details and it gives you control.

The only down side it you will need to cancel it yourself in the final month, or you end up getting a positive balance on your credit card.

I find the account number and sort code is usually on the back of the monthly bill, under the "how to pay" sections

is that 0% over 9 months per transaction, or for balance transfers?

can't believe you knew all that, and didn't know how you can pay :\

And i was just asking, because i wasnt sure if you had pay either minimum payment or pay it off full, or you could choose how much you want to.

If it's 0% for 9 months then you only want to pay the minimum anyway and keep what you would have paid off in an interest bearing account until the end of the interest free period on the card.

You just copied the information off the bumpf that came with your card...
Interest free period each month? That's not your 0% interest offer for 9 months. You need to know after using your card how many days 'grace' you'll get to pay it off before they start lumping the interest onto your balance.

If you were wanting to set up a standing order you would need to use the bank details on the back of the statement under 'ways to pay' that tell you how to pay via telephone or internet banking, Remember to use your card number as a reference number that goes with the payment otherwise it will go into a holding account with the CC company and be a complete waster to trace!

Anyhow... Back on track, if you pay the minimum payment you'll get charged interest on the outstanding balance, You can pay any amount over that but still be charged interest on the rest, Clear it every month you wont pay a penny! HTH

that card gives you 0% on purchases only for the first 9 months of owning the card.. after that, you will (likely) be charged interest on purchases from the start of the month following the purchase.

in some cases (such as cash advances from ATMs) interest is charged from the day the transaction was carried out

Certainly on my Barclaycard cash is charged interest as soon as it is withdrawn and at a higher rate than the balance from purchases. I remember reading the rate and vowing never to use my credit card for cash - which is why I can't now remember the interest rate. Smile

some places will accept one, and not the other...

in austria, for example, credit cards are very uncommon, so finding a place that accepts multiple cards is not as easy as it is here...
