A favour needed

Hi,

I just want to ask a favour for anyone in the Cambridge area.

I have a problem with my NSR only doing 60mph. I have been told that it's something to do with the powervalve. But since I have very little mechanical experience with my bike, I was wondering weather anyone would be able to come to my house and help me resolve this problem. Hope someone can help.

Take it to your honda dealer and have them check it up, that's the simplest way I can see my friend. Mr. Green

But taking to my Honda dealer this means paying £50 an hour for their time let alone what they will do to it! I'd rather just get it done for free if possible.

Seriously, just going out and looking at it, taking it apart, and doing it yourself is the best way to learn stuff.

Hmm... do you know anyone that's good with bikes maybe you could ask them? Or have a thorough look at your bike and see if you can spot anything wrong/unusual.

Some info on what it does would be helpful. Like if it accelerates like it used to before this happened, or if there's any other problems you notice about it?

I've heard that I have to take off the exhaust. Problem is when we de-restricted it we couldn't get the exhaust back on!

Thats true I had absoloutley no idea about engines but found a problem with the engine casing on my old cg so I stripped it. About a month later I got hold of an engine that I thought would work and got the whole thing back together it started but screamedI thenfound out that the main bearings had gone so gave up and got me RS.

But if I can strip an engine than get it back together perfectly with no previous experience I'm pretty sure that anyone can!

Patiences, and just stepping back for a minute and looking at what your wanting to do, and how your trying to do it seems to be the best way when something doesn't seem to want to go back together or brute force

Not sure. We couldn't get all the bolt holes to line up.

Sorry mate missed your post.

The acceleration is the same as before the de-restriction. In fact the bike doesn't seem any different apart from the top end has been increased to 60mph.

I have just thought of something that may explain my problem. Before the de-restriction I could go no faster than 50mph, this was after I'd done 1000 miles. I was told that the NSR should go 70mph worn in and restricted. Could this be something to do with it? Just a thought.

Do you mean it topped out at 50mph or you didn't exceed 50mph? My NSR does around 80mph tops (this is after ride in stage and it's still restricted).

Yes, but because I haven't passed my test my warranty counts for nothing.

The warranty wouldn't be valid because you've de-restricted the bike, thus 'tampering' with it.
