 |
|
Lo all,
I'm in the irritating position of having just passed my test and thus buying something a little bigger/more sensible.
I bought my RS in june, for a pittance from a family friend. It was in a state but £800 later is a fully working, sweet running machine.
I know the market dies at around this time, but I thought I wouldn't have too much trouble selling it and buying something a little more sensible (gs/er, something like that).
Discovering the insurance would only be £50 more for TPFT (I'm on TPO 0 no claims) is only making it more upsetting!
I've advertised on bikehq, here, the 125sportsbikes forum, and despite lots of people saying they're interested I have had no more than that.
The reason being (I assume) that it has scratched fairings and only one mirror.
This bike is now 8 years old and considering the cost of a new/nearly new is a bargain machine that performs to the same level, and it irritates me to know that people just want one that looks sparkly to impress their Corsa owning friends!
The lack of capital to do something like trade-in at a garage only makes it worse!.
Sigh, rant over.. ____________________ Shine on, you crazy diamond

I just sold a bike, and you do get lots of timewasters. The best way is to speak person to person or have them come view the bike. If they are willing to come and view the bike then chances are they really want it.
Also ask a little more than you actually want so when they haggle you down they feel like theyre getting a better deal.
Lots of pictures, history, descriptions etc will also help! ____________________ 2012 KTM EXC 250

I don't have any capital though! This is the problem
And Aprilia bits are bloody impossible to get hold of and 50x the price of standard bits. ____________________ Shine on, you crazy diamond

I recommend approaching the local bike schools and seeing if they are interested. Cheap 125's are in short supply and they regurlarly get bent, broken and battered by learners. CBT'ers won't care what the bike looks like and most schools will see right through the scuffs to the gem underneath. when I learned, the bikes (125's and 500's) ranged from the old honda 100's to relatively recent 125's but the 500's were at least 10 years old and looked more like 20. .. but, the guys kept them in (for the most part) top notch mechanical condition. A lot of schools will buy old, tatty but serviceable bikes as there is little point in getting brand spanking new Cg125's at 2 grand a pop if Biker-numpty is going to drop it onto the playground the first time out... . (I should know ).
Also, the mirrors on some of the bikes totally mismatched. They got whatever they had to fit...
