Right,

this is not a general attack on all scooter riders, as I know some are quite conscious of their parking etc.

I park at Moorgate every day, and every day there's a battle to squeeze your bike in to be parked. I know I could get up earlier, but trust me, my brains having none of it!

But can someone explain to me why some scooter (namely vespa/piaggio) rider insist on parking their bikes so stupidly?

I was thinking about the whole bay system most council currently have. Surely they could have bays for scooters and bays for motorcycles. Seeing as most scooters have centre stands and a majority of bikes have side stands.* Giving each their own bays would surely be more efficient in terms of space?

* Yes, yes I know a lot of bikes have a centre stand, but not many sports bikes, and nor does my SV!

In what way? On their side? They probably weren't parked intentionally like that, the wind just blew them over.

Speaking of which, you know scooters are small and light and easily "re-parked" in a slightly more sensible position... if you were so-minded.

YEah, I dont mind shuffling one to straighten it up a bit, but it seems to be a fair few of them. And those big buggers! They weigh a ton!

Also, its a bit of a painahving to shuffle 4 up to I can park, bearing in mind they leave a foot between each bike. I know it's nice to have space and all that, but even Im prepared to move my mirrors in and get squished up a bit!

Find somewhere else to park? If it were me I would not want to park my bike in a place so tight with so many scooter riders who don't care about scratching my bike's paintwork etc Mad

if there is a badly parked scooter in a bike bay, i just move it, regardless. they are light enough

otherwise, you'd never get parked

Not one to generalise, eh? Razz The lambretta/vespa squad seem to be protective of their machines, and i can't imagine them damaging anyone else's bike.

If someone was moving your bike to get into a space, you would kill them. So when someone beats the shit out of you for moving their bike, it'll be your fault. Get up earlier so you can get a space.

A whole 1 foot Shocked The inconsiderate A holes! Rolling Eyes

You wouldn't want ot park by me then, i like a good 3 foot gap on at least one side so i can stand and sort my gear out/put my hemlet on ect without another bikes handlebar poking me in in the ass.

So, by London terms you leave enough space for a bike to park either side of you? Or two each side if we're talking CGs with center stands Smile.

Things work differently in london (which I presume is where this is).

One foot between each scooter doesn't sound like there parked badly! well if thats side-to-side. You've got to get in there and kickstart it when you leave.

Its cruisers that take up all the bloody room with there 10 foot long bikes.
Sports bikes riders aren't that much better they get bored after the 8th point turn and just leave them at an angle

I park in Mayfair and it's a chuff'n nightmare, the bike's got the scar's to prove it.

It's the office bod's beating the congestion charge that cause the problem, latest stats show one is killed every day in London.

Their scooter is for the sole purpose of getting to work, unlike us with our pride and joy's. (expensive one's at that)

I hate them with vengance.

Anyone want a job as scooter sniper!

After just spending a week in London training, round the Finsbury Sq area I can see what you guys mean with the parking bays. Up in Edinburgh we're used to a solo motorcycle bay being big enough for 5 bikes if we're lucky and there's one every other few streets away but the way some people park and the diff types of bikes you're lucky to get 3 in at times. Where as round about finsbury square I think I saw about 20-30 bikes in the one parking area Shocked

Pretty impressive but scary at same times seing all the diff bikes and riders( including the guy in just a t shirt ! - brave man )

I think most councils would rather shoot the riders before they gave them bigger parking spaces around here.

Well, I got up early, as most of you non-Londoners advised, and yes, 45 minutes before I start work, I found a space. By the time I had my disc lock on and ahd faffed about, about 80% of the space that was left had gone!

Looks like I need to tack an extra unpaid hour onto my day! JOY!
