well Ive fixed my nsr and rebuilt the top end so its all back on the road, in 8 days I have learnt to despise the local buses Wink

so now Im running in the engine, so at the moment I cant go over 6000 revs, this means im changing gear every 10 seconds and I cant go over 55mph, this is soo frustrating, I cant wait until ive run it in so I can rev as hard as I want.

it kind of makes me want to avoid buying a new bike :/, or is it not so bad on a more powerful bike?

It was more of a pain in the ass for me when I bought my zx6, as the manual states "no more than 4000 rpm" for the first 500 miles, then from there until 1000 miles, 6000. I just sort of built up the revs after the first service at 500 miles, now and again taking it up a bit.

You should be ok going quicker now and again, provided your engine is fully warmed up and you dont lug the engine or scream it. Keep it running freely, without really working it Thumbs Up

It has been said that you should give it short bursts of power periodically.

yeh I have been told by my dad that if I gently raise the revs up, like on a dual carriage way it wont do any damage, Im just a bit parranoid like that.

my nsr manual says i should stick to 5k revs for 600 miles, then increase 1k revs per 600 miles, by the time i get the engine up to 9k revs i will have done 2400 miles and will be looking at another rebuild really Razz so Im not going to do it like that, more like how my dad suggested ^^

on a bigger capacity bike youd be able to achieve fairly high speeds even if you were doing a few k revs though?

really? Shocked thats what im getting a 6k revs, heh,

I dont really see why my bike would need 3600 miles of running in before it can run up to the red line? or is this refering to running in an entire engine, not just a new piston?

My ZRX1100 and by 1150GS were run exactly like I run them now from new. I never run 4T in, had no problems with them.

2T's on the other hand need it. Wink

500 miles tops, with occasional blasts to the redline and no labouring the engine. If it has tight piston clearance and you bray it in the first 200 miles it might seize. I'm surprised the guy who built it didn't give you any recommendations, after all he knows what clearance it's running yes?

i built with my dad so Wink

and Im taking it nice and easy for the first couple of hundred miles, Im not gonna put the bike under any pressure (so no pinning the throttle, no overtaking etc)

but I dont think it needs as much running as the manual states,
