What is up with people nowadays? What makes them think they can give shitty service and hope you forget about it and go away? I bought a bike (pedal, not ICE) back in July that was described as "very good condition" and "lifetime of wear left".

When it arrived, it had no pedals, no grips, the rear mudguard had been bent in to make it fit the box, the front lamp was missing the lens and didn't work, the front bearings were shot, and the wheels had been packed loose, so that one of the axles had made a nice gouge in the frame. I originally wanted to send it straight back, but conceded to get a partial refund of £30 to cover the missing/defective parts.

First excuse was "just transferring funds, bear with me".

Second was "just got back from Hols, will send tomorrow"

Third excuse, "can't send due to paypal account being suspended because of a hacker, awaiting security checks"

Which was two weeks ago. I checked today, and since the first excuse he's managed to pay for 6 further items which comes to over £100, and sell over £1,000 of stuff. I'm just waiting for the eBay dispute process to complete.

Why do people have to be complete shites?

I think you have within 60 days to get a refund through paypal. Don't let him pap you off with excuses, file for a £30 refund through paypal and he will have 10 days to comply otherwise they will take the moeny out of his account automatically. Thumbs Up

I know what you mean though. Bought a set of cans on ebay, "excellent condition but could do with 5 minutes of polishing"...turn up with scuffs on each can, bawbag is only offering a complete refund even though I'm just asking for £30 refund.

EDIT - Posted in the wrong section eh Wink

I just got one over on some cocky rip off merchant!

I bought a headlight for my bike for £35 inc. delivery on 9th aug.

Couple of weeks passed and it never turned up, no reply to my emails.. no nothing!

So I started a paypal dispute.. with 2 days before paypal decides what happens next, the parcel turns up.. the headlight is un-boxed, clearly not new, its used and half of its missing!

The next day I get an email from paypal saying they have found me in favour and refunded the money - £15 for their troubles.. so £20 in my account and I still have the shit headlight..

Next day I get an email from the seller saying "now that you have the headlight could you please send me the money that paypal automatically took from my account"

Laughing Laughing

I said I'd send the headlight back if he pays me the remaining £15 I'm owed and £12.99 for courier delivery!

NO REPLY from him hehehe

Na, your just unlucky I think Siggi. Maybe it's got worse over the last wee while but the vast majority of people using Ebay are genuine. I've had 270 transactions and only one of those turned out bad.

eBay's fairly easy to use and not end up having problems, seeing a picture of what you're buying is usually a good idea.

Some people do seem to manage to have problem after problem, whilst others manage to have hundreds or thousands of transactions with little or no problems. Thats not down to lucky, thats down to how different people go about doing things.

No, it isn't down to luck. There's the occasional auction that is just lies, I'm yet to find one of those and I've got 900+ feedback.

If someone thinks getting a sound item on eBay is down to luck then they're unlikely to start having more success. But as you're completely against sniping you're unlikely to ever be pleased with anything to do with eBay. Laughing

Lol, got a reply - "close the dispute and I will send your money today as promised". Yeah right. I'll end it when I see some cash, matey Smile

We've both got 100% feedback, but I'll be buggered if that will stop me giving him a negative rating.

I've got an ebay story.
a couple of years ago I bought a dvd off ebay. cost me a tenner i think. The seller (dvdbuymail) had some bad feedback, but had sold over 3000 dvds so I figured he should be ok. It was new years eve when I bought the item, so i figured It would take a little longer for it to arrive because of the holidays.
2 weeks later, no dvd and the seller had picked up a few more negatives so i emailed him.
No reply.
I started looking at his selling history and previous feedback and generally digging a bit.
few days later, still no reply so I emailed again, telling him he had a week to send the item or refund me.
No reply.
Next thing he is showing up as no longer a registered user.
I looked at all the stuff he had sold between my purchase and his accout closing and he had sold over 600 dvds, at approx a tenner each.
I filled a complaint with paypal, then i emailed people who he had bought items from, plus i statred sending out emails to people who had bought dvds after I had. I had over 60 replies from people who had sent money and recieved nothing. I also recieved 2 addresses for the seller of people who had sold him stuff.
Whilst looking at his previous listings I found a website, but there was nothing there, but I checked the domain name and got the sellers home address.
While I was doing all this I got a reply from paypal. The sellers account was empty so I wasn't going to get a refund.
Armed with all the info I had got I emailed the seller again, this time i sent the email to about 6 email addresses I had come across, In the email I put the sellers name and address, plus the address of his office, and told him I was going to take him to court.
I then recieved an email telling me to go fuck myself, and that it was mithering twats like me that had caused all his problems. WTF???
The next thing, I was looking on ebay for the dvd that I had never recieved, and I found a very familiar advert. The layout was identical to the one the dvdbuymail had used, more suspiciously his account had been set up the same day dvdbuymail's was shut down. I emailed to ask a question and got no reply, so i then emailed some of his customers, sure enough it was the same guy.
I emailed ebay and within a day he was shut down again.
Next I recieve another email telling me i'm a cunt!.
By not I had evidence that this guy had taken well over a grand, so I went to the police. It took a week to report it, and then some stroppy copper came to my house and told me it was a civil matter.
He said If i bought something from the catalogue and it didn't turn up you dont call the police, and this matter was no different.
I pointed out how many people he had ripped off and he simply wasn't interested. I told his to leave, then we went above his head.
a sargeant came to see us the following week, we gave him all the evidence, and I wrote a witness statement and off she went.
the guy was eventually charged with obtaining money by deception.
ebay did fuck all to help.
it was a bloody nightmare, and i still never got my dvd. or my tenner back!!

If you had his home and work address why didn't you pay him a visit?

It doesn't have to be violent, 5 mins of race-can at 2 in the morning every morning etc etc would sure make me feel a bit better about it. A few letters to his boss clearly showing the dispute wouldn't have done him any favours either.

Coz i'm in Oldham, he's in Essex. I'm not going all that way for a tenner. I think I caused him enough grief from here.
Total wanker by the name of Spencer Hawken by the way.

I'll have to have a dig about on my old pc, I think all the info is on there. I remember his name coz it was unusual, also he was from Brentwood. I had a phone number but no one ever answered.
I think he got a suspended sentance but I could be wrong. The police didn't really make much effort to keep me updated.
I wouldn't be surprised if he was still trading on ebay tho. I think he sold dvds legit, then he would suddenly shut down and leave a couple of hundred dvds outstanding, then set up under a new id, build up a bit of feedback then shut up again.

Good on you shaggy. Thumbs Up

Thats up there with someone placing an advert for a "New and sealed goldeneye n64" which i hastily snapped up.

Only to recieve just a cartridge wrapped in bubblewrap that had jam and hair on the top of it.. Sad

I started a dispute but he wasn't a registered member by the time paypal got into it.

Didn't bother pursuing it, wish i did.
