After hearing a few mates talk about an abandoned airfield near where I live, I did some research on the net and found out roughly where it was, about 20 minutes later I'd found the site and an entrance that had a chain and padlock on it, this might have been a farmers field entrance though.

Im just wondering if anyone would own the site to an raf airfield that has been closed since 1947? Or could the public use it, for say riding mini motos about?

edit: ooh that made my blob go gold Cool

It may well still be MOD land, you'd need to contact them first to check, after that it's probably the local landowner/farmers.

I regualy go to the airfiled out the back of whisley lake in surrey.

You can't drive a car on it . Evtrence is blocked for that. But you could i supose take a bike on it.

Te runway itself has been bollarded so you can drive up and down it. However i use it for my RC car so not to much of a problem for me Smile

Most exe airfileds are now proivatly owned though Sad

the runway its self seems to have been grown over, but there are long concreted areas where the hangers used to be and access roads i guess, the surface doesnt look great but it doesnt have to be for messing round on a mini moto i guess,

ill see if i can get any info on current ownership from the raf base near me (the open one), although after look on a recent map it looks like there is a farm near by so could be owned by a farmer.

but then i also found some council meeting notes on the internet giving the go ahead for the site to be turned into a land fill.

god knows what this lands being used for Razz

its this if your interested Razz

I've seen Fire Engine testing on an abandoned airfield in Norfolk. They were really putting it through its paces.

Can't remember the name of the air field but I believe on of the hangers is used for some kind of police training.
