my wife has never wanted to ride pillion, my son has and loved it my ex has and also loved it so i thought i would take the wife out (just now) just down the road and back at very sensible speeds.
shes back safe and sound and absolutley hated it and im in the dog house for allegedly bullying her into it.
opinions/advice please

Sucks... She will prolly never like it in that case... I hate when i take a first time pillion on board (girls usually) and they start screming at 10mph, Especially when my bike needs to be revved to get warm...

I suppose it is scary on the first time, and lord knows i hate going pillion....

Don't force people to do stuff they don't like , especially loved ones (at work I'm regularly forced to do shit I don't like and feel bitter and resent ful tothe bosses all the time).

unless you think its a thing they hate and eventually might learn to like ,

Ignore the screams... take them for a proper ride... they'll get used to it after a while and soon start loving it.,.. if you can stop about 10 miles away from home, then ask how they like it... then offer them the chance of going pillion home or walking... Mr. Green Twisted Evil

Seems like an accidental cross post from that anal sex thread to me

I seem to be having the opposite problem. My son, step-daughter and OH are all asking about going out on the bike.

Thankfully none of them has lids/kit yet, and I also have the excuse that the bike is still unfamiliar to me (only had it 4-5 days), and altho I'll be riding all year round, the wet weather has already started. Wink

Looks like I'll be lucky to still be solo by the spring. Rolling Eyes

My girlfriend was petrified at first, but once she tried it she loved it, now she always comes on the back with me Smile

I used to love riding pillion before I got a bike myself, however since I've had my own bike for some reason I find being a pillion a very scary experience.

It's perhaps because having ridden my own bike for a long time I fully understand how vunerable bikers really are - something that never occured to me before I began riding. So now, being on one and not having control is pretty scary.

I always found it far harder than riding.

You have to try and anticipate what the rider is doing. Fine if you are wrapped round them but hanging onto the back bars at 60 is difficult.

My first accident was because the fucker on the back leant the other way because he didn't think we would make the corner.

Left hander at about 70 he leans right on the back.

Cue bike up the road, gravel rash, scrubbed out by nurses with scrubbing brushes and his protestations that "we would never have made that corner"

"Well if you had not leant the wrong way you absolute cunt, we would not have spent the afternoon in A&E."

Bitter, yes.

Only take a pillion who trusts you.

Oh god that's terrible.

I mean how could he have thought leaning AGAINST the bike would have helped matters? Surely you would have had a better chance at least attempting the corner rather than making the rider go off course.

What a jackass.

tell her how you feel about it, it being a big part of your life, and all you want her to get on the back for is so you can spend some time together doing somthing different, apply lots of soppy shit, a little bit of a guilt trip too, if all else fails just say "fine" and cut off your nose to dispite your face..

they do it, so why cant we.

The best pillion I've ever had is my son!! Natural born biker he is! Thumbs Up Normally though, I don't like carrying anyone - as some have said, they start screaming at 10mph or leaning the wrong way!! Rolling Eyes And I also hate going pillion since riding a bike myself - I think it's the feeling of not being in control! Shocked

One thing to allways do is set groundrules (especally if they allready ride Razz)

Arrow Dont get on/off till i say so

Arrow Lean the same as i do, no more no less

Arrow If you have to shift about do it when were going in a stright line at a decent pace NOT when were going slowly comeing up to traffic..

Failure to comply will result in a long walk home Thumbs Down

Hate beign a pillion too, oddly it a bit of a skill itself which people forget, its not like a car, if oyu lean at the wrong time or squirm about you could en up in serious shit, as previously mentioned :o
