Just want a few opinions really.

A mate of mine had his R6 loaded into a van a few months back, alarm blaring. Police were given the reg of the van, and even a security guard on a bandit 1200 gave chase.
Anyway, they got away.
When they stole the bike it had numerous cracks, scrapes etc from new owner's lack of roundabout judgement, and stopping distance from a people carrier.

Anyway, when he got it back, it had a dent in the tank, all the locks completely mullered, single seat unit thing ripped off and tool kit gone.
(Forks twisted in the yokes too).
Now when he set to work today. He found the datatool alarm had been taken out, and all been rewired. That doesn't sound an amateaur job to me..

If I was going to steal a bike to keep, I wouldn't steal a bashed up one, but I would go about completely rewiring where the imobiliser was.

When it was found it was parked at the side of the road, completely empty of petrol.

I can't help but thinking removing a datatool alarm, isn't a chav's work. Whereas the rest of the damage etc is.

Opinions?

(It was also still 33bhp restricted when he got it back, they must have wondered why it was so damn slow).

the only reason to rewire it would be to use it.....say for a getaway bike from a robbery or a shooting....or maybe just used to case a future target....

Stealing a bike is stealing a bike no matter how bashed up it is, you'd still be able to break it for parts and sell it for quite a bit.

As for the immobiliser...that's wierd, i would of thought if the theifs had taken out the immobiliser and succesfully rewired it, they would have been savvy enough to work out the restrictors...Thinking

The bashing up does sound like chavs work...maybe they had a mate who managed to do the rewiring for them.

Very curious one Neutral

That's a different issue.

I understand why someone would steal a bike, they want it, fair enough.

But why would you remove the imobiliser very carefully, yet bash the bike up and dump it.

They did that with my MZ. Stole it by cutting through an uber chain with specialist cutting equipment and took it away in the back of a van. Rived the locks off it, then bypassed the 12 lead immobaliser (no mean feat) before ragging the arse off it for four days, crashing heavily several times.

Cops caught someone bold as brass at a filling station getting ready to do his fourth drive-off of the weekend, still had my numberplate on it!

Exactly the same thing occurred to me, why the hell go to all that effort just to go for a spin on it? I eventually concluded that they are incorrigably stupid. I forget whos signature it is in but it said something along the lines of "Sufficiently advanced stupidity is indestinguishable from malice.".

Who can say what someone's motives are? Perhaps they just wanted a bike to ride around on, not interested in the spares.

hmmmmz the only bike I ever had stolen was my A100, 20 years ago. I had an accident on it and couldn't ride it home so I pushed it into a pub carpark, went back for it a couple of hours later and it was gone. Right pile of crap it was too. Perhaps were have under-rated them Very Happy

It's much easier to sell on an immobiliser than a nicked bike Rolling Eyes

The original thieves probably took out the immobiliser and dumped the bike. The bike will have then been re-stolen and trashed....

Like Gavin said:

Sounds like they wanted it for a robbery. Doesn't matter how it looks as long as it goes fast.

Bet they dumped it when they found out it was 33bhp!

hmm... would be funny instead of an immobiliser, to restrict all bikes to 5bhp if nicked. Perhaps if the automatic thing doesn't work, you can do it via SMS.

So when said Chav (or bad-boy yardie) tries to evade the Polizei on said machine, they look like they are riding a Tomos!

Perhaps you could have a large speaker with a recording of a Mini Moto as well... Thinking

I crashed my 1999 R6 smashed the left top fairng, mid panel and dented the tank. Split the tail section and cracked the rear light, bent the gear level.

2 weeks later it was stolen over 2 nights.

The first night they came and stole the bodywork and Alarm/imobliser (just cut the wires)

and then the 2nd night stole the bike.

The bike was parked in a garage, with steering lock on, rear wheel chained and two cars parked in front of the garage.

They managed to drag the bike out the garage past the two cars (leaving tyre mark all way up drive and blue paint over cars)

and then away.

The worst thing was (next to 9months for payout) was that my mate saw two gypos walking down the rd with my bits! Evil or Very Mad
