It's a myth that it has been falling at all anyway. It has been on a plateau for the last 10 years or so, especially since the Euro NCAP crash tests became so big (it started in 1995). It has got as far as it can go while car designs are based on passing the test of crashing at the most common accident speeds. Car design can only go so far without drastic changes. There will be just as many people crashing at higher speeds as usual.
3,500 people dying on the roads every year? There're c. 1,000 people dying as a result of homicides every year! (Something which has steadily increased during the reign of the Labour party - perhaps steadily increasing no matter who is in power?).
3,500 deaths a year really isn't significant for the amount of money spent on trying to reduce it.
Motorcyclists wipe themselves out at a hugely disproportionate rate all the same. There have been a steady stream of them killed on the A90 north of Aberdeen, normally at least 1-2 a week, every week, during this last summer. A guy at work was killed on Saturday on the road I decided not to take because of the har at the same time. ____________________ I must not be a troll...
