Yeah, the DT125 engine produces around the 23BHP mark but shitty laws choke them down to a low 15BHP, once you start modding them they are noisy and quick!

Pistons have been known to last 20,000+miles which is impressive for a high revving 2 stroke, reliability was not an issue with mine it always started.

They are alright but i get the feeling it wont last long used offroad. bent the radiator into the tank yesterday dropping the bike @ 10mph down a dirt track. pooped myself a bit as I thought id damaged both but it was lucky.

Standard for they are slow accelerating and top end maxes out at 60. Once you do the wire trick and get that powervalve working properly it feels like a different bike. Ive had mine pulling all the way to 70mph the last time I tried (backed off as it was screaming although couldve prob gone a little more) and Ive got a bigger sprocket to go on the front yet which im hoping will add another 5mph. Replacing the expansion pipe for a DEP will give a couple of hp too Smile

One thing I dont like is the lack of power in the low end (2 stroke thing I guess?). Pulling away on a steep hill feels like its about to stall but could be me not giving it enough revs. Get it up in the powerband though and its keeps on pulling.

Mine has always started too. Costs me only £7 odd to fill up (I fill up when I hit reserve) and that is good for roughly 110miles. I think reserve will do around 30miles? although Ive never tested it Wink. My insurance is £10 a month Thumbs Up TP only though Thumbs Down but its chained up and garaged at night and always chained up when out. Still worry it'll go missing so im going to fit an alarm for peace of mind.

Another thing about the RE's is no more rev counter, no temp gauge (only an led to tell you if its ok/hot), no fuel guage!!! (so you gotta rely on the trip counter and know what you average for a tank of fuel.

I still love mine though Mr. Green I race her around town occasionally when im bored, or I take it for a little spin round a bmx track, or for a trip round the country lanes and still be able to ride it to work the next day (so far anyway) Thumbs Up

I'm getting my 2005 RE in 2 weeks time, £2000 for an 05 with 400 miles, just had 1st service Laughing I don't like the standard silencer so i'm wondering if the dep rear silencer will work fine with the standard expansion? I have heard a dep silencer on a standard expansion makes the bike slower, is this true?

Thanks for your help.

no its absolute rubbish, silencers do very little on a 2-stroke, mainly a noise thing. The dep silencer should be fine but you should get the whole pipe Thumbs Up

They said it was due to the back pressure or something like that??

Believe me, i want the full system but it's the lack of cash i have. Maybe santa will bring me the expansion!!

Hopefully he will! Very Happy the expansion chambers on 2-strokes are shaped strangely for a reason - thats the bit that generates the power! You could run no silencer or a fully packed one and find the difference very small!

3-5bhp? Standard DT125RE restricted is 14.5/15bhp.. Not heard anything about the gianelli but ive heard the bigone systems are alright but dont offer as much in performance gains as the dep. They rust pretty quick too and cost around the same as the gianelli. I havent heard anything on arrow systems either (stan stephens has them). They cost a little more than the gianelli but not as much as the dep and the end can is titanium Thumbs Up
