Am going to see a 1999 (T) tonight with the cash in my pocket to buy.

Just wondering if anybody has one or has had one and can give me pro's and con's?

Have read a few reviews and it seems like a good versatile bike, but any extra info is always welcome.

Got one, but only recently. A fun upgrade from the Divvy with plenty of winproofing and loads of fun.. Smile It doesn't half shift for a 600 sports-tourer.

Check the revision, E's are better than the D's. Not sure which year they swapped over though. saw an S reg (1998) with 24k on it and they were asking £2400 which was a bit much. Check if it's had new downpipes as they tend to go by around 25K miles.

My '02 plate has 13k on the clock and is in mint condition (or close enough) for it's age. Bar the usual checks (brakes, head bearings, responsiveness etc.) I'm not sure what to recommend checking. They are nippy though with 97 Bhp/150mph at your command. A bigger front screen is a bonus as it'll deflect more of the air and have you cruising at 100+ with no probs. I think 2nd and 3rd can get clunky with age and wear. Compared to my Divvy there's no real flatspot when accellerating and get it up over 7k revs to see how it really performs. You need the higher revs to really wake up the engine. The rear shock needs checking at 15k I think (like any other bike to be honest) and make sure the plastics are all clean, uncracked and there's no crappy after market plastic on it. Mine came with Datatool 3 and tagging as standard.

The seat and seating position is comfy but I start to ache after 150 miles or so without a break. 150 miles is about average for the tank range.

Probably an E6 or 7.

Sounds like a deal, check the downpipes though and how good the gearbox feels.

Yes, thanks, and I love it! I bought mine new last year and haven't looked back since. Been around for years so they must be alright otherwise Kawasaki wouldn't keep producing them.

I've had a couple.
Downpipes rot, stainless replacements are £240.
Rear shock goes off after about 16K.
Brake calipers go off eventually, feels like air in the system and impossible to keep bled, only fix is to replace them.
Otherwise they're pretty bulletproof, one of mine had over 50K when I sold it and still ran beautifully. Fast and underrated, comfortable and practical, get the suspension sorted and handling isn't bad.

My brother's got one.

Typically there are second gear troubles (gun it hard in second and see what happens) and stodgy suspension are the usual problems a ZZR600 has, other than the typical rusting mild steel exhaust. At 11k miles, it won't have any of those troubles.

They're fast. Very fast.

For £1600, bite his arm off.

Make sure you do all the normal checks (VIN & V5, bearings, chain, gearbox, engine noises, tyres, brake pads etc etc. Knock off the cost of anything which needs replacing and then knock off a bit more if you can get it).

Deal or no deal?

DEAL!!!!!!!!!

Picking her up tonight! Slept very little last night. So excited! Dance!

She was in tip top form. Needed a clean, very few marks on her (the odd garage scuff) but nothing worth mentioning really.

He owned it from new, serviced every year at Kawasaki.

I cant believe the price I got it for. There is one on auto trader, same age colour, 22K for 2700??

Today is going to go so slowly. Sad

An ex-ZZR 600 owner here at work recommended stiffening up the rear suspension (shock/preload) to jack the back up slightly. Apparently his bike turned in a lot better after doing this. Smile

Watch out when cold starting her though, Mine has flooded once or twice if I don't give it full choke for 15s or so...

Her she is......

And oh my! Think the throttle is connected to my grin!

Taking it very steadily at the moment. I am used to the CX, so this is a little different!

I know all you out there with your super sports etc will be shouting that it aint, but this thing, for me, is awsomely fast! Have not taken her above 9.5K rpm yet. Did someone say 14K red line? OH YES!!

Took her out with the misses on the back last night and it was like she was never there in comparison to the old CX.

I am a very very very happy boy! Dance!Dance!Dance!

Anyway, here are some photo's of her.

My brother in law (Who's been riding for 20 years) took mine for a spin and it took quite a while for his grin to fade. So did mine, what with blatting around on his Limited edition old style speed triple at the same time... Smile

Really enjoyed the zzr chat, recently bought a 98, silver one myself, havent done the DAS yet, but was too much of a bargain to miss.....now sitting in my brothers garage waiting for me to pass.

Anyway might seem like a stupid question with an obvious answer but why does mine only have 1 exhaust when the gorgeous 99 has one either side? Would 2-1 be an aftermarket modification?

well done on the purchase

Pretty sure thats an aftermarket mod mate. My 1997 model had a double exhaust.
