Hi,

Trying to decided whether to get the legend Honda c90 or cg125. I just wanted to know how fast a they both go?
Also would cycle panniers be of any use on a motorcycle, as i hope i will need quite alot space for coastguard equipment and i dont want a car!

Spanks
Liam!

CG125 will do about 65 indicated, earlier models will do about 70 indicated as they had bigger carbs.

Just take it as they will both probably be capable of a steady 60mph.

At a push you could probably get 65-70 maybe, but a comfy cruising speed of between 50-60mph Thumbs Up

My CG would do 65 or so on the flat.

Thought the c90 was more like 50?

I just makes me wonder why they dont go faster (125's), as there are 50's that manage 55mph. Is it just age?

I used push bike panniers on my rxs100 there ok make sure there tied down well and aren't going to interfere with the running of the bike. Have you thought about getting and rxs100? they are probably cheaper and they will do 70 (indicated) If you get one that has been looked after if will last a life time, mine was amazing.

The 50s are 2 strokes rather than 4 strokes.

As a very basic rule of thumb for this sort of capacity, a 2 stroke can make twice as much power as a 4 stroke of the same capacity.

Be aware that if you live close to the coast and thus the wind is quite strong, it will have a drastic effect on top speed, especially with panniers loaded up.

In a strongish headwind you'll be looking at no more than 50mph.

Great little bikes though and are fairly bulletproof and cheap.

Problem with 125s is finding the ballance of speed and reliabilty.

Cg is a fantastic bike for getting you there. Low running costs, Reliable as fuck, and really there not that slow for the road.

Now lets take a rs 125. They often get up to 120mph. But they drink rather alot of fuel compared to a CG or somthing. And your rebuilding them after ever 8k's

If you can handle having a bike of the road for about a week and stripping a bike and engine down for every 6 months then rs 125s ant that bad Smile

The earlyer cg125 was made in japan, untill honda decided they would axe it (probbaly as there wear more advanced tihngs with camchains and 2cylinders and whotnot) the brazilians went ape and said they would produce it, so now they do!

I had a brazilian cg as a first bike (afaik 79/80s on?), i can safely say it will do no more than an indicated 70, down a 3mile long hill, throttle pinned, laying down, with a tailwind, and if you could go more than 70 you'd not want to, there simply not designed to, it weaves and wobbles like a jet powered pushbike (and thats speed off gps)

Also ridieng anywhere far off with the throtle pinned most of the way greatly reduces the mpg a fair ol bit, a full tank got me a meer 100miles

As far as space.. if its a cg take half the back seat off and have your stuff in a box there (also makeing use of the rack thats most likely been fitted)

Your looking at a realistic normal top speed to 50 for most of the time really, not a problem depending on the roads your on and more so the rest of the traffic! tbh the only thing i regret about the cg was haveing to sell it! Sad

Flat out the c90 will do an indicated 50mph. Some owners change the front sprocket for a slightly larger one for lower revs at high speed. I haven't tried this myself but I imagine acceleration and hillclimbing ability would take a knock.
