The rear tyre has gone and currently the wheels have a matched set of BT020's on there. Not being overly flush with cash at the moment I may have to put a different brand on the back as the 020's are £100+ for the rear according to a variety of web pages etc. Would there be any problems in mixing manufacturers i.e. sticking a Continental or Dunlop on the back or should I stick to Bridgestones all round? If I had the cash I'd just swap the pair over and keep the front as a spare...

no worries just as long as you dont mix radials (bt020s) with cross plys (eg bt45s or michellin pilot sports)
so keep with the radials and you'll be sweet as Mr. Green Thumbs Up

You can mix tyre types, but certain combinations are illegal. It is always best though to keep them the same i.e. radial with radial.

Yeah, cos that'll make you popular with the tyre fitters Rolling Eyes

They hate that stuff.

Cheers

Well, BW said "tyre weld? No problem.." Smile

just not relishing the run out (20 miles) with a tyre full of goo and potentially leaking pressure. If anyone sees a silver ZZR parked up on the side of the A421 tommorrow, that's me.. Smile

I never knew you could still get crossplys. I thought crossplys were some ancient technology used on old classics and that all newer tyres were radial. Looking into it more it seems i had an illegal combo on the gpz at one time (a bt-014 on the front and a bt-45 on the rear) Shifty.

Why is it bad to have a mix? I never noticed any problems with the handling or anything. Thinking

Well, 20 minutes and £115 quid later and the ZZR is moving properly again... Smile

wasn't too bad getting it to the shop, just had an issue at the garage when I found that the air pumps they have at BP garages will not fit onto my bike as the lance with the nossles on it clashes with my bike wheel. Will need to get a valve extender just to get air into the rear in the future... Sad.
