....at least they scratch the tank and lose some fairing bolts.....

<why do honda charge so much when their dealers are so stupid?>

Probably better off actually finding out what you need done and asking for those specific things to be done.
I got mine serviced at about 7000 just to check it out, it went in perfect, came out with a leaky oil can, they messed up alot of the bolts and screws - tore them to bits, and all in all i think they just took off the fairings, kicked it a couple of times and put them back on.
Theres not much that goes wrong with the bike on general running just get the obvious stuff done.

I've been ringing around. cos my bike's 12 years old some dealers won't go near it. quotes i've had are in the region of about £250 :(
how hard would it be to do myself? i'll do it over a weekend. new sparks, oil filter, what else? suppose new oil all around. how hard's it to do the valve clearences?

Hi

Not sure with the GPz, but if the valves are screw and locknut then they are not too bad to do, just a bit time consuming. If they are shims then it is a pain, especially if the shims live under the buckets. Best case scenario you check the clearances, pull out the old shims and work out what new shims you need then go to a dealer and buy them. Worst case scenario you have to remove the cams to get the old shims out, and your local dealer doesnt keep them in stock and has to order them

All the best

Keith

well the closest i've come to taking an engine apart is de-restricting the carb. so it's gonna be a long weekend with the bike in bits!
