Im interested in buying a set of decks to have a play around on / make me own remixes etc.

Does anyone know of a decent but cheapish set up to buy and where to buy it from??

I dont want to spend too much incase i lose interest in it.

m8 theres SOOOO many dexx out there but all id say is not matter what ones you get make sure there direct drive, dont bother with belt driven coz there shit & when/IF you move on to technics then you'll have a feel for them

OR if you can afford them then get technics & either ones(1200's or 1210's) iv got 1 of each Mr. Green

but deffo direct drive, so maybe ebay some & check that they have that!

CD's are SHIT! & dont need as much skill, so dont go that route

can NEVER beat real djing,AKA VINYL

DONT buy cheap they teach you frig all. Try getting hold of a 2nd Hand pair of the following.

Technics 1200/10's (same thing different colours, 00's Silver, 10's Black)

Stanton STR8-150's (Awesome turntables, better than Technics, more torque and just much better made)

Numark TTX1's Very High tech looking turntables with Digital pitch etc.

Only consider the above 3, none of this cheap DJ box bullshit.

Doesnt matter what type of mixer you get with, get a cheap basic 2 channel mixer, but make sure your decks are one of the above.

Buy a set up which holds its money, so if you do get bored, the re-sell value is good. Most of the DJ's I know go for Technics stuff... though specs are beyond me... there are a few DJ's on here, failing that log onto somewhere like www.harderfaster.net and ask some of the big boys on there...there might even be kit for sale.

I'm no DJ, I’m an MC so in all fairness the 'feel' of these decks is not for me to say which is best. But I do know good equipment.

You wont loose interest if you spend a little more than your thinking about at the moment, I had some shit equipment awhile back and ended up trying so hard to mix, then I had a go on some decent decks and I was enjoying it, I got rid of mine and lost money.
So stretch your budget and get some good stuff.

Technics 1200/10's are pretty much the work horses of the worlds DJ's, I think when you develop the skills to mix well, most DJ’s can jump on a pair and mix to a high standard. You’ll find them in 95% of clubs you might end up playing out in. Wink Thumbs Up

You can pick up Mk2's for very reasonable prices now, they are old but if serviced they are still spot on.
The reason these are talked about so much is because of their superb build quality and usability, there is a lot of competition nowadays but don’t let the flashing lights and gadgets draw you in. Some decks from Vestax and Numark for example offer digital beat matching (this rarely works well), they have buttons to pitch up the record to rather silly figures +/-50 or something, which you will never need.

If you have a decent budget then I would go for MK5's, don't talk to other DJ's about what they think are the best, they will sway you to their personal choice.

Technics MK5's wont let you down

Once you’ve found yourself the set you like you’ll need the mixer obviously.
And here you’ll find an absolute mind blowing market, so many buttons, so many names, what do you need? IMO you can be as ambitious as you like, but you’ll have to take more in when you start mixing.
Take a look at the Vestax PCV-002 Mixer this is a sturdy, very user friendly mixer, it doesn’t do anything for you and has no weird effects, but your equalizing can be done with ease.

The Vestax PMC 05 is a nice mixer, they can be picked up pretty cheap second hand. Be careful buying second hand though, as with all analogue cross faders they break because they can be used a lot for scratching and the metal runners they are on fuc* up.

Similar Numark

Tasty Mixers

As far as I know Vestax and Numark make the most popular mixers.
The hunting for prices and condition is all up to you, go to your local record shop for advertisements, ask the guys in there.
I was using the links to show you the models.

Yeah Technics are good, and id probably reccommend them over my decks (Stanton STR8-150's) because the Stantons have got so much torque and you can sit on them and they'd still spin a record in pitch. Technics have slightly weaker motors. But the bad thing that i learnt at a house party is, with me being used to a strong motored Stanton then went on to technics, i found it hard because i couldnt be as rough handed.

So my two pence worth is get a good set of MK2 Technics, can pick a pair up for £400 and they'll be spanking. Thumbs Up

other decks are just imitators

techys cant & wont be beat

if the others were so good then why aint all the clubs/top dj's using them?

I've had my Technics for 10 years - never let me down....they are always a set for sale at www.gumtree.com....always check the torque first before buying second hand though. You also want to invest in a good mixer too....if you can afford it get the 'industry standard' Pioneer DJM600.

Because replacing gear costs money, and the Others havent proved there reliability anyway. And to be honest i think Technics will remain in clubs now, because alot of Clubs are shiftng to Cd and Digital (mp3) mixing nowadays.

Used to have Pair of Techys and they were great, but i prefer my stantons in all honesty. They had cider all over them, fags on them and they still work perfectly, and they are just as well built as Technics, you realise that when you take them out the box and nearly pull your back their that heavy and sturdy.

Dont get me wrong Technics are quality, but these are better.

IN YOUR OPINION!

are these the "straight arm" stantons??

CD's dont involve as much skill & all this beat matching shit makes it pointless to even be a DJ,like anyone can jump on & match them up

Yeah in my oppinion, but having owned a pair of Technics and currently own a pair of Stantons, i think its pretty unbiased.

Yes they are Straight Toned armed ones, but can interchange the Arms on them. May swap them for S shaped arms because i dont do scratching so dont really need the straight arms.

And yes there is hardly any skill needed in CD/Mp3 mixing, but clubs are moving with the times, Good clubs still have both, but alot of smaller venues in Manchester are now cd.mp3 only.
