Hello all,

I'm off tomorrow morn to the local(ish) dealer with my eye on a nice sv650s after trawling around for a while, so its not the first bike ive seen.

anywho, they have it listed at £1995, and tbh my budget is gonna hurt if it goes far past £1500 for the inital cost of the bike.

So i was wondering if anyone had any hagglking tips. I want to lower the price, but obviously need more resons than "i cant afford that much". paying in cash is good, erm, anyhting else? MOT maybe coming up, tax, tyre condition...

tis a black curvy sv650s, '01 plate, 14200 miles, full service hisory and a Meta alarm.

any tips MASSIVELY appreciated,

Loz

You'll be very lucky to get £500 off the price, even at this time of year.

They usually renew MOT (and tax AFAIK) for you if theyre less then 6 months to expiry, so that puts that one out of the window.

Suppose looking for any kind of worn parts and damage would help but not massively. Personally I think £1995 to £1500 is a huge drop and unless the sales person is an ugly bird who fancies you and would do anything to get in your pants, you haven't got much chance of shaving that much off the price.

You'd be better off looking private if your looking for a good deal like that.

This time of year sellers are trying to get rid for the winter and its a buyers market.

Its probably just best to wait a few more months and save up a few more dollars. Not like its going to be decent riding weather very soon anyway.

Cash won't make a difference either, they make money from finance. Its a cheap bike and I doubt they will drop much below what they have it up for.

I'd reccomend a Beretta 92F. I assume you'll be holding the dealer at gun point for that kind of discount...

Look on Biketrader, you could get a bike with lower mileage for about £1600 if you are lucky, always buy private and you are more likely to knock a private seller down than a dealer to be honest, dealers know all the tricks so you won't be able to talk them into a discount.

Take what you will at most pay for the bike, IN MONEY and say "I'm buying a bike today, I have a few to look at... and I have the money"... show him/her the money...Try to get tax thrown in...

I've managed >12% that way (a couple of times - albeit on cars)

Good Luck.

PS. It sounds a good deal already mind... :/

I would take you if I was closer but I can't so my best advice is to take someone who can spot even the noobiest of things such as cracks etc and you ask the questions such as:

Is it HPI clear?
Have you ever crashed it/has it ever been crashed?
How did that mark get there?
Does it run smoothly?
When was it last serviced? Who serviced it and how?
When was it last taxed and tested?
When were the tyres last changed?

For that particular bike I think £1650 is a fair price in all honesty.

Good luck.

Well, ive just got back from the dealers and I've bought a bike! Very Happy

Red Bandit 600S, P reg, totally mint, 10k miles. £1800 /w 3 month warrenty. Its got a carbon rear wheel whatsit cover, a double screen. MOT just done, tax till halfway through 07, tyres done 1k miles ago. 2 owners, father and son since new. I met the guy who was using at as p/ex as well, seemed like a really nice guy.

Option of him leaving the top box and rack on for £150 but no too sure about that. top box and rack is just 3 months old.

No pics as picking up next saturday!

On top of that, I got an Arai Astro R black for £250 (normally retails at £330).
