Just thought I'd share my first experience of Drivers in cars that are too big for them and not checking for bikes!!

I was just heading to work the other day. It had been raining so the road was wet so I was taking it easy (like you have to in a 125) i was just coming up to a set of traffic lights where the right hand lane goes straight on and the left hand lane is to go left! I was in the left hand lane and the arrow was at green, I was going slowly when a giant Mercedes Jeep in the right hand lane decided it didn't want to be there anymore and swerved in front of me! By this time i was like 3 feet away from it and slammed the breaks on and slid into the side of her! (no offence but most women are hopeless in big cars, and yes i am female) Anywho I smacked into the side of her and came off my bike!!

The worst part of it all is that the women just drove away and left me lying with my bike on top of me...and also all the other cars on the road drove round me!! Not one person stopped to help me!

I was left trying to wriggle my leg out from under my bike and trying to lift my baby up! I'm not a big person (only 5'4") so I did struggle!

I am a new rider so at first I thought it could have been my fault...but the more I think about it I don't think it was!!

Sadly not much you can do, but if possible try and get the reg plate in such situations the other driver is breaking the law by driving away.

I would report it to the police as well - doesn't sound like they could have got your details, but possible she could report it to the police, horribly twisting the facts.

Sounds like it wasn't your fault, but you could have done more to avoid it - don't worry, as you get more experienced you'll find it easier to avoid such situations, though there's always going to be some situations you can't do anything about.

If she cut into your lane like you described, you should call the police.

They might have CCTV to get the car, she could be charged for leaving the scene of an accident and it will be her insurance that will fix your bike.

that sucks. i cant believe how selfish most people are on the road, even after years of riding. still, its probably got more to to with the word "mercedes" than the word "woman". they arent called jerks in mercs for nothing, they seem to have a higher level of arrogance than anyone else on the road. yeh it was a bit gutting to see my bike scratched up!! not too much though just a little on the front fender and the exhaust! Plus the back brake pedal is sitting rather high up! Lucky thing is though my bar end fell off the other day and refused to go back on so it didn't get scratched hehe!

You must be a lot smaller than 5'4" to fit IN a 125 :S.

Hmm, a midget girl... jeez... why does it seem all the girl bikers on the forum are hundreds of miles away from me... Sad

She changed lanes without looking, she's a cunt. ( and yea, it's her fault.)

Shame she didn't stop, a crash caused by her with a claim of concussion would have got you a couple of grand compo and you'd have been able to take your test and get a bigger bike (just like your sig says you wanted) for the money...

Also, picking up a bike has bugger all todo with size (to a degree), more todo with technique, turn the bars to the tank on the side it's dropped (I.E if the bike drops in the left hand side turn bars full left lock) then on the side that's on the ground grab the handle bar in one hand and the pillion grab handle in the other then push it up, shouldn't be too bad to do, my bike weighs a flippin' tonne compared to a 125 but's a piece of piss to pickup.

Shocked I can't believe she just drove off and that nobody else stopped to help you either!! Man that really pees me off!! Evil or Very Mad Sorry to hear about your fall, but glad you're ok and that the bike's not too bad! Have to agree with the others that I'd have got her reg and reported her, but I guess you'd be pretty shook up after that happening!

Have to agree with you too, that most women are hopeless drivers in cars (and yeah I'm a woman too!) The majority of my near-misses have been with women drivers!!

And finally a woman that agrees about how most woman drivers are shit!! no offence to any lady drivers that are attentive and not worrying about their blusher but in the few weeks i've been riding i have seen countless woman putting on make-up while driving! OH DEAR is all i'm saying!

Laughing I get the same!! But it's true unfortunately!! And I don't ever argue with men who give out about women drivers - I usually agree! Laughing There are good women drivers out there, but sadly they're very few and far between!!

I had a friend who was a nightmare in a car! She honestly didn't have a clue and after going in the car with her once, I made her stop and let me out - she was lethal!! Rolling Eyes God knows how many clutches her poor car went through! I once told her to take her foot off the clutch pedal and she said - 'what's that?!!' Doh!

Not just women who don't indicate, some person a couple of weeks ago decided to change lanes on a dual carrige way into my lane, i was next to the car and he didn't indicate and obviously didn't check his blind spot, when both his righthandside wheels were in my lane i grabbed a handful of throttle and was out of there like a flash, if i were on a 125 or similar i would have been lying on the road not doing a ton in the lane the car was just in.

Dunno whether it was male or female... had other things on my mind at the time... Rolling Eyes See plenty of blokes/women on a daily basis who don't indicate... make me wish i had a pistol in a gun holster at my side when i'm riding Middle Finger Middle Finger Twisted Evil

If it was up to me the majority of drivers on the road would be made to take an extended driving test by the meanest driving examiner on the planet!! *nods*

I dunno, I reakon it'd be possible, just a bit harder ( not that i've ever tried putting makeup on myself you understand... :p )

Doing it when your riding wouldn't be easy on a bike... esp if your right handed as you wouldn't be able to use the throttle Smile.
