Recently my GF has been pestering me to take her to Alton Towers - Now I don't mind a bit of speed, as long as I'm in control. Something about rollercoasters etc just shits me up.

Just wondering if I'm the only one who wont go near them??? or if anyone used to be like me and now loves them etc share your stories!

I refused to go on the Pepsi Max at Pleasure Beach in Blackpool when I was about 7. It's the only one I've ever pansied out of, and I've regretted it ever since.

Love rollercoasters. Went to Sea World in Florida and loved Kraken so much we went back later in the evening and went on it 10 times in a row. Mr. Green

You can go to Alton Towers and not go on the rollercoasters. If you want your missus to think you're a poof. Mr. Green

Havent been on any proper roller coasters, only the one shitty one that lasted a whole of 20 seconds. Most of which was getting to the top, slowly.

Really want to go to some of the proper parks in europe and see what they're like.

If you go around this time then there shouldn't be big queues, giving you enough time to go on each roller coaster twice! Laughing Twisted Evil

I went with some friends about 3 weeks ago, went on all the rollercoasters. Oblivion is fantastic, just love the way it stops at the top so you are looking down into the drop and hole beneath thinking "Oh shit!" Laughing then drops you down.

Have fun. Thumbs Up

I've been on a few of the milder ones at Disneyland etc (Thunder Mountain??? that was awesome) but the balls out ones like nemesis and air scare the shit out of me. I think I could deal with oblivion cos' it's just one fall.

Maybe down a few shots before hand, might help my decision making Twisted Evil

When i was about 10 or 11 i was a total wimp when it came to rollercoasters, wouldn't go on them at all, scared to death of the thought. Then once at blackpool, right at the end of the day had time for just one more ride i basically got forced to go on the pepsi max (big one). After that i was so pissed off because i absolutely loved it and didn't have time to go again :/

Ever since i have absolutely loved rollercoasters. Theres really no point going to a theme park if you don't go on them, they are what make the park Smile

The nemesis is pretty good, but i don't rate it all that highly on the adrenaline rush/thrill seekers scale to be honest. I don't think theres any rollercoaster here in england that would be satisfying enough for me heh.
Oblivion is fantastic too, but again it's no big deal.

I have only been to Alton Towers once, when Oblivion was new, went very out of season in pretty dull weather. Got on oblivion about 4 times in a row with no queue whatsoever.

Just do it, stop being a pansy Razz you'll love em.

Air isn't in the least bit scary. It's got to be one of the smoothest roller coasters around and it really does feel more like flying than riding a roller coaster. Nemesis on the other hand is pretty quick and jerky and far more of a 'thriller'.

I don't think I've ever kept my eyes open on Oblivion, purely because the speed and force it picks up on the drop force your eyelids closed. It's good fun put ridiculously short and not worth the massive waits there was for it when it was first built.

The 'big one'/pepsi max at Blackpool is all about the first drop... I never fully conquered my fear of rollercoasters until I rode the Big One sitting on the front carrage, with my eyes open and hands in the air all the way around. It takes serious guts to keep your hands off the handrails when you do that first drop and there's nothing infront of you but the track and the sea and ground so far below Very Happy

The Main ones at Alton Towers from scary to Unscary.

Oblivion
( 180ft straight down, alwasys scares the crap outa me Embarassed Crying or Very sad )

Nemesis (Closes Encounters with ground, red water and Rocks)

Rita( 0-60 in stupidly fast time and its very very jerky, fun tho)

Air (smooth, but go on the back for thrills, it drags you round, front and middle is for pussi's on this ride) back ftw Thumbs Up )

All the rest of the rides are tame.

Any rollercoaster with rear facing seats are good too. I can't remember what it is or even where it is now (useless i know), but i remember one i used to go on with just the back row of seats facing backwards instead of forwards. Always more interesting when you can't see whats coming up Thumbs Up

So if you ever come accross a rollercoatser with a few backwards facing seats try and get on them Smile

I went to a PGL camp for a week a couple of years back now when i was about 14 with my best mate and one of the trips was en mass to Alton Towers.

Now i was scared shitless of roller coasters at the time and figured there wasn't much point in me going, but my best mate and the guys in our cabin egged me on an ended up going.

The shoved me onto Nemesis first and i literally could of shat my pants as soon as we started moving, i was terrified...byt the time the ride was up I WANTED MORE! So we went for Air and Oblivion next as well. Simple as that.

There's no other feeling like it Dischord, it's just balls out MAD! Go for it!

Umm, I went to oakwood, and went on "speed" which was way too short but it was a bit of a thrill especially when it twists in mid air Confused made me want to puke though...

I've been on quite a few rollercoasters at the big name theme parks but without a shadow of a doubt the scariest experience I've had was on the rollercoaster on the end of Brighton pier.
It is obviously not a modern, superfast or particularly high set up but it's the crudeness which creates a very real sense of life danger.
When I first sat in it the kid in front had to be secured by the operator pulling at a rusty bar out the back of his seat to get his harness to lock.
It's very compact in size so one turn and loop goes straight into the next which makes it very disorientating.
I can only describe it as how I imagine it is to be in a high speed car crash. All you can hear for 30 seconds is grinding metal as rusty bolts flash past your eyes and the side of our face is slammed into the rock hard plastic harness. Then just as you think you're about to be catapaulted into the channel it grinds to a sudden halt.
If you want a real scare I'd highly recomend it. Thumbs Up

I have to agree i'm still trying to find the coaster that I can ride with a smile on my face, most are pretty sedate and boring.

Lets make them all out of wood again and miss a bolt or two every few feet, add some danger too it to make it exciting. Smile
