98 Octane fuel for Aprilia Rs 125?

On early ones it was required. Later ones specify 95 RON.

If it specifies 98 RON fuel then you run a good chance of burning a hole in a piston using 95 RON. If it specified 95 RON then using 98 RON should (in theory) have no effect on performance.

Higher octane fuel on its own will not give you any extra performance (indeed, normally slightly loose power, although realistically too small an amount to test for on a 125). It is the higher compression / more boost / more advanved ignition timing that higher octane fuel allows that gives you more power.

Cars with around 200hp will see an increase of 5/8hp afaik. So im gonna go with what the oracle says You wont feel a difference.


Rethinking it could of been 15/18hp increase... bah doesn't matter

Cars with knock sensors can adjust the state of tune to accommodate poor fuel, so they make less power on lower octane.

Blackbirds have a knock sensor I believe and some newer BMW bikes do too. I don't know if the 'bird alters the fuelling/ignition if they detect knock but I can't see any other reason for having a sensor.

Depends on the extreme of tuning. For example a motor that is supercharged running 800hp on pump gas will often give figures 200-300 horsepower higher on the dyno with race gas (114 octane vs. 93)

At the level of a 125 2t that is already screwed to get 28 ish horsepower, you will experience no difference at all really.
