After seeing a picture of somebodys Reliant Robin on here the other day I was inspired to go and have a look in the Reliant garage down the road. I wasn't sure I could seriously consider driving a three wheeler but I was quite surprised to find that on a full motorcycle license I could get behind the wheel of one of these bad boys!!

https://www.aixamatwheelsnw.co.uk/images/a751.gif

I'm not massively interested in taking my driving test. Firstly I can't afford to learn and secondly I can't afford a car. Well this bad boy has a 500cc engine so fuel consumption is excellent. It's class 1 insurance and is taxed as a motorcycle. Everyones a winner. I'm seriously considering one.

Check for defenate on your licence, afaik it depends how long you've had you licence as to weather you have the class that these tiny cars come into...

Also, they are cheap but also horrificly expensive for what they are, a realistic max speed of about 50 without a hill involved..

If your allready rideing then a driveing test isn't going to be that hard, maybe spend £500? a fiesta or somehting will set you back about £500/600 if you look carefully and be far more usefull, so your going to be about 1/2000 better off after with a better car..

If you have enough money not to car then there very cool, specuially if your nowhere near any nsl roads Razz or in traffic all the time..

Maybe worth a look at one of these

Similar top speed and cost (and economy), but e-by-eck do they look more fun Razz firly sure they come under the same area (in fact the 50cc version can be used on a 16yearolds provisional!)

I'm pretty sure there ok (if you can drive tha maxim thingermy i'm sure this will be ok, its the same catagory i'd imagine) i'll ask a mate, he did some advertiseing for them a while back Laughing (in fact he might have his for sale still, not sure if it was the 50cc one though)

If i dont end up getting a bike and sidecar thing later i'll be looking at one of these myself Smile

If they come under the same classification as quads then.

If you passed your bike test before jan 2001 (iirc) then you can drive/ride quads and these funny little cars on a bike license, if you passed after that date then you need a car license.

But, they are also taxxed as cars, at £110 Shocked ...my dad just bought a 250 road legal quad and fortunatley it had 6 month left on it but when he renews it, it will cost £110 Shocked Shocked Shocked

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe they are under the same classification as quads.

Damn it. If that's the case I have been misinformed by the guy at the Reliant garage. Can't remember what year I passed my test but i'm pretty sure it wasn't before Jan 2001.

Just check with the DVLA...they will be able to tell you everything.

But, one plus point about quads etc is that there isn't a law on exhaust pipes. You can have anything and everything, so in other words a straight through if you really want (same as cars, no laws on them....yet!)

Well put it this way, i'm supprised he can get in it for one and that it moves anywhre for another Laughing sound guy but his ways are unusual (he balances stuff on his head for a liveing for example)

Still there very cool, i'd love to get one with a stuffed engine and hamer a ninja 400 engine or something in its place Twisted Evil

Seriously don't get one, when I lived in Spain these things are everywhere, and can be driven on a MOPED license(in Spain that is) i.e. meaning 14 year olds who decide that one of these would be so much cooler than a 2 wheeled equivalent can be out on the road(needless to say the majority of these retard chariots are in fact driven by strange men)They are barely capable of 30mph(they are diesel after all) and are a bloody nuisance, holding up traffic whilst looking totally stupid. Don't even consider it.

Just do your car licence and stop faffing about. You don't need to get a car just because you have a licence for it. Do your licence now and get a car when you can afford it. Having a licence for longer may well save you money when you do come to insure a car. Insurance is the only thing which costs more than a bike anyway.

One day, you will need a car. You can just about cope without one, but it's a lot of hassle lugging a lot of stuff about on a bike.

Very true. I have my test in november. I have tried to hold it off for as long as possible.

However due to a 2nd child and most jobs im appling for requiring a full licence I need to do it!

Also running old reliants gets expensive when things need doing to them!
