a little while ago i clipped a guys wing mirror with my mirror
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=95824

yesterday coming home from work i smack this womans mirror with my bar end, man! it went with a bang.

i stopped this time cos it was such a hit i expected damage, at the same time she hits her horn and gets very animated in her car.

i turn around and hold my hand up to say sorry, we couldn't stay around due to it being the A10 and approaching tottenham, it was busy!

i give her the "pull over" sign so i can apologise and to see if i'd done any damage although when i turned around to look at her i didn't see anything obvious.

i carry on down the road and indicate well in advance of the turn so she could react, i turn down the side road, and wait.

nothing............

she just drove on.

i thought "well i gave you your chance"

BTW, as i was stopped and turned in the road i look to my left to see a cop car slowly cruising past, they may have seen what had gone down but did nadda.

Fair game then?????????????

Anything else i could have done?????

Apart from giving cars more space or not filtering through gaps that are too small, there's not a lot you could have done.

If she tries it on, just state that you pulled over to give her your details and she decided not to stop. Although from a legal point of view, she can claim that she felt intimidated and that was why she didn't stop, she might then try to claim off you.

Cheers

If you have no spacial awareness don't filter.

Harsh but fair. Everyone makes mistakes but you just cant afford to make mistakes on a bike to often, You only got to get the bar knocked a bit when you hit a mirror and you could be on a rather painfull trip to the floor.. Was you filtering in slow traffic? or just normaly riding inbetween cars whilst moving preety fast?

And id be surprised if she would make a claim, unless she has a good memorie on your no. plate.

I've hit one wing mirror when filtering, learnt my mistake and hopefully won't do it again Smile

/me waits as Bikers back each other up blaming the car driver...

IF you cannot even filter safely, don't filter at all. Why were you allowed to call the shots as to where she spoke to you? I'd be fecking miffed if some git knocked off my wing mirror and then gesticulated to pull over somewhere convenient for them. Cars are bigger than bikes.

Guess from your previous 2 experiences you didn't realise that.

As the bike was in front I'd say that he would call the shots as to where to pull over.

Not to mention pulling over on a busy A-road is a bad idea.

And I don't expect many bikers will come in here blaming the car driver at all. Even the OP admitted it was his mistake and risked being ridiculed online by telling us about it.
