Warranty work.....

Ok, here it goes...

Bought bike 6 weeks ago (gsxr600) with a 4 week fix anything warranty.

After 3 weeks, i called them up with a few things........
excessive play on stand (bike leans over far too far when on stand IMO)
bad flat spot at 8000rpm (bike just dies at 8000, then takes off like a superbike after, dont know if this is normal)
slightly dodgy cold starting (even with choke, would start fine, then cut out, start again, cut out, start again and run fine)
Excessive smell of petrol (when put away, garage would stink of petrol)
clicking on front wheel (dont know, but they are fitting new front brakes so must be that)


I took the bike in last friday 29th Sept. called tuesday and thursday, and both times they were waiting for parts. Fridays call claimed the discs had arrived, but they couldnt guarantee it would be ready to collect.

Saturday has passed, and still no call, still no bike, been 8 days so far.

Now i know they will obviously do paid for work before any warrenty work, but where do i stand?

Could i claim anything off them for the time its took?
Could i claim anything for the inconvienance?
Or is it just one of those things?

Its just one of those things.

Warranty work takes time unfortunately, due to its nature there is a lot of paperwork to fill out aswell.

Its not so much the fact that "paid work goes before warranty work", its more the fact that "allready booked in work" goes before the "just turned up" work. What you dont see is that their diary is probably booked up completely for about 2/3 weeks in advance, so trying to fit in a bike with warranty repairs is a case of slotting it in when they get time, or if there is a cancelation. Which is why it can take more time than you would think is needed.

Also regarding parts, i know that everyone uses it as an excuse "waiting for parts", but it can take time unfortunately. Normally if it is a dealer then they can get franchise parts pretty quickly, however it depends if they are in stock, if they are back ordered. Also if it is a common problem, there is obviously going to be a large demand for the parts. Also theres nothing to say that the parts have allready arrived, but have been incorrect due to bad packing at the dispatch end, which does happen.

Its just one of those things, just wait your turn and ring up every two days and just politely ask how things are going. Theres no hatred at all towards customers that ring up simply enquiring about their bikes progress, after all - if anyone can understand about how much a bike means to someone, its the people at the dealership.

Anyway, hope that was of some help to you. Just some things that ive noticed from working as a mechanic before, and now covering the service manager's roll in my new job amongst other things

Id get them to change the front wheel bearings as well. Probably not the problem but trust me, You dont wonna have one of them failing at a speed of anything above walking pace.
